Where did I go to school for Osteopathy?

The Canadian Academy of Osteopathy (CAO) is a leader in osteopathic education in Canada and internationally. Founded in 2003, this institution is the oldest osteopathy school in Canada! It is dedicated to training future osteopathic manual practitioners at the highest international standards.

The CAO offers a rigorous 4,200-hour program that combines in-depth academic study with extensive hands-on training. The curriculum is built on osteopathic principles, emphasizing the relationship between structure and function and providing students with a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics. Students progress from foundational labs to advanced clinical practice, ultimately treating real patients in the school’s public charity clinic under professional supervision in the final year of the program.

The CAO is recognized by Osteopathy Canada (OSTCAN) for its commitment to excellence, having established the first Type 1 osteopathy program in Canada that aligns with the World Health Organization’s top tier  benchmarks. CAO  graduates are known for their elite level of skill, clinical reasoning, and professionalism, and exceptional patient outcomes, making them leaders in the growing field of osteopathy.

What is Osteopathy and what/who can it help?

Osteopathy is a gentle manual therapy that is focused on realigning the structures of the body to allow your body to self heal and self regulate based on these principles of osteopathy:

🌿The body is a dynamic unit of function; it is a complex interconnected system, meaning that a dysfunction in one area of the body can impact the function of other structures and systems in the body.

🌿 The body is self healing and self regulating, when falls, injuries and occupational stresses and strains create dysfunctional patterns it can interrupt the body's ability to self heal and self regulate.

🌿Structure and function and reciprocally interrelated; meaning if the structure is misaligned, the body's function will be altered.

Osteopathy is rooted in these core principles and that is why we use our extensive knowledge of anatomy to search for the cause of dysfunction, not just focusing on the symptoms that the body is presenting.

What makes Osteopathy so successful?

We spend our time and energy searching for the root cause, not the symptom. We understand the relationships of structures and we are rooted in the principle that structure and function are interrelated.

If we can remove the cause we can assist the body in restoring in self healing and self regulating properties.

What is Osteopathic Manual Therapy?

Members of the Ontario Osteopathic Association are Osteopathic Manual Therapists. Practitioners of Osteopathic Manual Therapy follow the theory that imbalances in the human structure contribute to or are directly related to the development and/or maintenance of disease. Anatomy and physiology is the foundation of Osteopathic treatment. Practitioners recognize that the human body is self-regulating and self-healing – and will strive for health if given a chance. Our role is to encourage this self-healing capacity through manual treatment – to convert the physical into the physiological. We allow nature to do its job of removing any and all obstacles and obstructions that will interfere with the proper nutrition and drainage of the body’s tissue. Understanding and adjusting the anatomical unity of the human structure is our job.

What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a gentle form of manual therapy that assists the body back to health by aligning the structure so that your body can heal itself based on the following principles;

🤲 The body is a dynamic unit of function, everything is interconnected. We treat the body as a entire unit of function, always searching for the cause.

🤲 The body is self healing and self regulating, by realigning the structure so that the body can function optimally can restore the body's innate ability to self heal and self regulate.

🤲 Structure governs function, meaning that the proper alignment of all layers of structure gives the body the ability to function as it was designed.

Osteopathic Manual Practitioners do not heal the body, but facilitate the health of the body.

My name is Kim, I completed the 4 year Master of Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences (MOM.Sc) at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy.

After a long painful decade of bouncing from modality to modality for pain relief from sports, work and life injuries I found osteopathy. It was the first thing that actually helped with my injuries and a life changing discovery, so much so that I made the decision to enroll to become an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner and here we are at the beginning of an exciting and humbling chapter ready and able to assist others in their daily life. 🙏
