Today Churchill was excited to welcome Brad Siroski and Jasmyn Albert from Youth Matter!
Brad presented to grades 10-12 this morning. Brad told his story through poetry that he has written about his life. His presentation focused on recognizing mental illness and promoting mental wellness as teens. He talked about the four major struggles that students go through in high school: stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma. He then shared how to promote wellness through self-care, using our voices, and seeking support.
Jasmyn presented to grades 7-9 this afternoon. She is an Indigenous educator who speaks with students about the importance of keeping connected to Indigenous culture and ceremony for life-long wellness and for living in a good way. Jasmyn shared her own lived experience of navigating hardships and keeping in balance with the ebbs and flows of life. She encouraged our students to stay connected and grounded for when we face hard times.
