As the holiday season approaches, many of us are surrounded by lights, music, and celebration. But for countless families—especially those with a missing loved one—this time of year can deepen the ache. Traditions feel different, conversations feel heavier, and the “what ifs” grow louder as December goes on.

And in virtually every community this year, we’re reminded of our unhomed brothers and sisters who are simply trying to make it through harsh weather and long nights. Their struggle is a quiet but constant presence during a season that’s supposed to be warm and welcoming for everyone.

Even for those without a personal tragedy, the holidays can bring real pressure. Shopping, crowds, tight budgets, and the pace of the season can weigh heavily on anyone already doing their best to get through the day. We rarely know the full story of the person standing beside us in line or passing us on a busy sidewalk.

This season, we encourage you to slow down. Let’s offer patience, understanding, and kindness wherever we can. A small gesture—a respectful word, a held door, a moment of consideration—can make more difference than we realize.

And if you are struggling, please know help is always available. You can call or text 988 for immediate, no-cost access to a trained mental health counsellor, anytime. Please share this post and this number widely - we can never know who might need it. ❤️
