Hi everyone, I hope you are all staying safe out there! I’m going to be open for bookings beginning tomorrow (Wednesday August 23rd) for the foreseeable future.

Everything is touch and go and the clinic is on evacuation alert, there is a possibility for last minute cancellations, but I would like to start serving the community again as long as things remain stable…

My Facebook account is for some reason being disabled and I cannot figure out how to appeal this. They have banned my personal and business accounts on Facebook and Instagram for no reason! When I tried to appeal it was reinforced and I have no idea how to contact someone for additional review to get this reversed.

The stability of the sacroiliac joint is key to having a pain free back. When we have poor activation of the transverse abdominals, gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, quadratus lumborum, thoracolumbar fascia, mutifidi or iliopsoas due to muscular inhibitions we can have inherent instability of the SI joint.

Because the SI joint is the articulation between the forces directed from the trunk down into the lower extremity being able to quickly fixate this joint through the activation of these complex of muscles is key to overcoming SI joint pain. When the muscles fire poorly the joint cannot tolerate the forces transmitted and it leads to inflammation and irritation at the SI joint itself. If left unchecked this inflammatory process can become chronic and repeatedly inhibit muscles leading to further instability, back pain and even radicular leg pain.

High frequency stimulus into the joint itself increases endorphin output and anti-inflammatory substances your body produces endogenously which reduce local inflammation keeping the body from these chronic pain cycles.

Electro-acupuncture neuromodulates the poorly firing muscles and restores their motor-output to allow for proper stability of the SI joint.

Achilles tendonitis / strain is well addressed with acupuncture treatment. Releasing tension along the posterior chain, clearing trigger points in the soleus and calves and neuromodulating the muscles that plantar flex and dorsiflex the ankle.

When we strain a tendon or ligament the local inflammatory process can not only have a negative impact on the soft-tissue surrounding the site of injury (slow healing and increase of sensitivity/pain) a secondary process of neurogenic inflammation can affect the nerves and motor-nerve output of interrelated muscles which leads to tightening and eventually inhibitions that can ultimately recreate trigger points in the body turning this injury into a chronic problem.

To limit nociception, or pain with movement at the end range of motion for the Achilles’ tendon, tape is applied. The tape prevents the pain response which can be keeping the tendon chronically inflamed in a seemingly never-ending cycle by limiting dorsiflexion (It’s hard to avoid and rest your Achilles in day to day living - especially in sport) The tape also increases proprioception to the joint itself which allows for more sensory feedback to your brain to coordinate muscular contractions further increasing stability and efficiency of ankle movements.

Beyond local treatment we need to balance the pelvic girdle for best results with any knee or ankle injury.
