It's the end of November, which means a few things: Thanksgiving for our neighbours (with a 'u') down south, getting close to Christmas season, and also, MOVEMBER!

As you may know, Movember is a month-long fundraiser for men's physical and mental health awareness, during which men all over the world grow moustaches to fundraise for the cause.

If you can, please help out this fine looking group in their fundraiser. Their handle (no pun intended) is 'Smashes & Staches', based here in Langford at the Victoria Pickleball Centre.

Thank you!

Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.

A friend of Motus just made us aware of Vancouver Island Supports Ukraine - a group of local volunteers who collect funds and deliver, in person, educational supplies, medical supplies, and firefighting equipment to the people of Ukraine.

This extraordinary group (you might recognize a few faces or names) continues to do great work to support those affected by the ongoing war. For more information about who they are and what they do, watch some of the videos on their website.

Time for another episode of 'Find your physio'!

Wes is in there somewhere, looking great in his Barbell Physio gear. All you UBC physio-types from his cohort might recognize a few other faces as well.

First one to find him wins a high-five - come on by the clinic to collect!

CrossFit gets a bit of a bad rap sometimes. In reality, all hard exercise carries with it some degree of risk - but can also have great reward. (For those who aren't aware, CrossFit is a branded fitness regimen that involves constantly varied movements performed at high intensity.)

This recent study had some very important findings:

- CrossFitters reported both fewer episodes of low back pain and lower pain intensity than their sedentary peers (41% vs. 69%).

- Athletes with a history of back pain tended to improve after starting CrossFit, with no evidence that the sport worsened their condition.

We talk all day long about preparing your body for the loads you're going to place on it. There are lots of great ways to do this, and sometimes, hard exercise is one of them.

This post isn't necessarily pro-Crossfit, or any other brand of exercise. We really just want to support the idea that in many cases, with proper guidance, your body will rise to the challenges it faces.

You can do it. We're here to help you.

Ok, we admit: A whole bunch of us at Motus have recently jumped onto the Toronto Blue Jays bandwagon.

Wes and his family though, have been on board all year. Baseball is huge in their house - so guess where they are today!

Go Jays!!

Want to know more about our newest physio, Brandon Craipley? Come see him at the clinic! (Also, read his bio below.)

Brandon is originally from Alberta and completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ottawa, where he worked at a sports clinic and discovered a passion for long-distance running. He continued to pursue this interest while earning his Master of Physical Therapy at the University of Western Ontario, competing in several long-distance races along the way.

Brandon’s practice is grounded in evidence-based care, integrating the latest research with clinical expertise to deliver individualized and effective treatments. He takes the time to listen and understand each person’s unique story, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment to create treatment plans tailored to their goals and lifestyle. By combining hands-on techniques, personalized exercise programs, and education that supports long-term self-care, Brandon is dedicated to helping people move with confidence and reach their full potential.

Outside the clinic, Brandon continues to compete in long-distance running events, including marathons, and is currently training for his first Ironman 70.3 in Victoria. He also enjoys CrossFit, pickleball, skiing, travelling, hiking, and spending time with his dogs.
