Do you ever feel like you don’t deserve your success—even when you’ve worked hard for it?

You’re not alone. Many capable, high-achieving people struggle with Imposter Syndrome: that quiet voice that says “I’m not good enough” or “I’ll be found out.”

These feelings can lead to anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, and constant self-doubt—but they are not a sign that something is wrong with you. They are patterns that can be understood, explored, and changed.

Counselling can help you:
✔ Understand where these beliefs come from
✔ Reduce self-criticism and perfectionism
✔ Build confidence that feels real—not forced
✔ Learn to trust your abilities and accomplishments

In the wake of recent tragedy, many parents are wondering how to talk to their children about what happened — and how to help them feel safe again.

Children may not always have the words for their fear, confusion, or sadness, but they look to us to make sense of the world. Honest conversations, reassurance, and emotional validation can make a powerful difference in how they process events like these.

🎵 Music and Mental Health: More Than Just Background Noise

Music has a powerful way of reaching us when words fall short. Research shows that listening to music we love can improve mood, reduce stress, and help regulate our nervous system by lowering cortisol and increasing dopamine—the brain’s “feel-good” hormone.

But music isn’t only helpful when we listen.
🎶 Making music
✍️ Writing lyrics or poetry
🎤 Singing with others
🎧 Attending concerts and shared music experiences

All of these support emotional expression, connection, and healing. Music helps us feel, process, and regulate emotions—especially during times of stress, grief, anxiety, or burnout.

Whether it’s a song that grounds you, lyrics that reflect your inner world, or the shared energy of live music, sound can be a gentle and accessible support for mental well-being.

When someone is injured, we often focus on what we can see — the cast, the bandages, the limitations. But what we don’t always see is the mental toll that comes with it.

Chronic pain, reduced mobility, and sudden lifestyle changes can lead to anxiety, depression, and emotional exhaustion. This image represents more than physical injury — it represents the silent struggle many people face every day.

Let’s start talking about mental health alongside physical recovery.
Let’s check in on people who say they’re “fine.”
Let’s normalize asking for help.

Healing is not just physical — it’s emotional too.

When anxiety is high, the world itself can start to feel unreal.

Derealization is a distressing experience where surroundings feel distant, foggy, or dreamlike—even though you know nothing has actually changed. For many people, this isn’t a sign of something “going wrong,” but rather the nervous system’s response to prolonged stress or anxiety.

Anxiety and derealization are closely connected. When the body remains in survival mode for too long, the mind may create distance as a way to cope. While protective in the short term, this experience can feel frightening and isolating when it persists.

The good news is that derealization is treatable. With the right support, it’s possible to calm the nervous system and reconnect with a sense of safety and reality.

At Trauma and Stress Counselling, our experienced counsellors understand how unsettling these symptoms can be and offer evidence-based, compassionate support.

You don’t have to face this alone. 💙

Strong emotions can feel overwhelming — but there are simple, evidence-supported tools that can help.
Here are a few techniques you can use anytime:

✨ Reframe the moment – Gently ask yourself, “Is there another way to look at this?” Shifting perspective often softens the emotional impact.
✨ Slow breathing – Inhale for 5 seconds, exhale for 5 seconds. This calms your nervous system and reduces overwhelm.
✨ Body awareness – Notice sensations without judging them. Give your feelings space so they don’t control you.
✨ Release tension – Tighten and relax muscle groups to reduce physical stress and regain steadiness.

These approachable techniques are backed by research and can help you feel calmer, clearer, and more in control.
