🌙 Struggling with chronic insomnia? New research highlights the potential of medical cannabis for sleep.

A recent randomized controlled trial compared cannabis sativa oil and lorazepam (a commonly prescribed sleep medication) in adults living with chronic insomnia over a 4-week period.

The results were encouraging: sleep quality improved significantly across all groups, and cannabis sativa oil performed comparably to lorazepam on a validated insomnia measure (PSQI). Researchers also found that participants using cannabis oil experienced notable improvements in quality of life, supporting the idea that sleep support isn’t just about nighttime rest, but how you feel and function during the day too.

📓 How to Journal Your Results Like a Pro (So Your Follow-Up Actually Helps)

Starting medical cannabis can feel like a lot of trial and error — but the right tracking makes it easier to find what works (and avoid what doesn’t).

If you want your follow-up appointment to be as helpful and personalized as possible, try journaling these key details for at least 7–14 days:

✅ 1) What you took
Write the product name + format (oil, capsule, dried flower, etc.)
✅ 2) Your dose
Include the amount (and THC/CBD strength if you know it)
✅ 3) The time you took it
This helps us understand timing, routines, and patterns
✅ 4) What symptom you’re targeting
Pain? Sleep? Anxiety? Appetite? Something else?
✅ 5) Your results (rate it 1–10)
Track symptom changes before and after — even small improvements matter
✅ 6) How long it took to feel effects
Onset time can vary depending on the format and your body
✅ 7) Any side effects
Even mild effects (dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue) are important to note

✨ Pro tip: Don’t aim for perfect notes — aim for consistent ones. A few quick lines per day is enough to help your clinician adjust your plan safely and effectively.

Need help getting started? Our team can guide you through dosing, timing, and what to track so you feel supported every step of the way.

✨ 5 Ways to Support Healthy Hormone Balance (For Men + Women) ✨

Hormones play a role in so much more than people realize — from sleep and mood to metabolism, stress, skin, and overall wellbeing. The good news? Small daily habits can make a big difference over time.

Here are 5 simple, science-backed ways to support healthy hormone balance ⬇️

1️⃣ Prioritize protein + fibre at meals
Balanced meals can help support steady blood sugar and reduce cravings and energy crashes.

2️⃣ Support stable blood sugar
Try pairing carbs with protein or healthy fats (instead of eating carbs alone) to help keep things more balanced throughout the day.

3️⃣ Strength train a few times per week
Strength training supports muscle health, metabolism, and overall hormonal health for both men and women.

4️⃣ Prioritize sleep consistency
Your sleep schedule impacts key hormones involved in hunger, recovery, stress, and overall health. Aim for consistent sleep/wake times when possible.

5️⃣ Manage stress + recovery time
Chronic stress can affect multiple hormone pathways — even small things like daily movement, time outside, and breaks from screens can help.

Your body doesn’t need perfection — it needs consistency. 💚 Save this for later & share with someone who could use a reset.

That’s why more patients are exploring medical cannabis as part of a personalized care plan for symptom support. 🌿

While everyone’s experience is different, many patients living with autoimmune conditions report seeking support for things like:

• Persistent pain or discomfort
• Inflammation-related symptoms
• Sleep challenges
• Anxiety or stress related to chronic illness
• Reduced quality of life and daily functioning

Medical cannabis isn’t a cure — but for some patients, it may play a role in improving comfort, rest, and overall wellbeing when used under medical guidance.

At Greenleaf, our team takes a patient-first approach, helping you explore options safely and responsibly with ongoing support, education, and follow-ups tailored to your needs.

If you’re living with an autoimmune condition and wondering whether medical cannabis may be right for you, we’re here to help.

🧠 C*nnabis and the Central Nervous System: Why Effects Vary by Symptom

Medical c*nnabis interacts with the central nervous system (CNS) in complex and highly individualized ways. While often discussed broadly, its effects can differ significantly depending on the specific symptom being addressed.

Cannabinoids interact with receptors throughout the brain and spinal cord that help regulate pain perception, muscle tone, mood, sleep, and neurological signaling.

Because these systems serve different functions, responses can vary widely—both across symptoms and between individuals.

If you’re exploring whether medical c*nnabis may be appropriate for your health needs, our clinicians are here to help guide that conversation.

🦵 Joint Health Isn’t About Age — It’s About Movement Variety

Joint stiffness, aches, and reduced mobility aren’t just a normal part of getting older. In many cases, they’re linked to how often—and how differently—we move throughout the day.

Our joints are designed for movement in multiple directions. When we stay in the same positions for long periods (sitting, standing, or repetitive motions), joints can become stiff and less resilient over time.

The goal isn’t intense exercise—it’s regular, varied movement that keeps joints nourished, flexible, and supported.

This Wellness Wednesday, think less about doing more—and more about moving differently. 💚 Small movements, done often, can make a big difference.

💜 January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month 💜

Alzheimer’s disease affects memory, cognition, and independence—and it doesn’t just impact those diagnosed, but also the families and caregivers who support them every day.

While there is currently no cure, medical cannabis has emerged as a potential supportive therapy for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Research and clinical observations suggest that cannabinoid-based treatments may help manage symptoms commonly associated with the condition, including agitation, anxiety, sleep disturbances, appetite changes, and chronic pain 🌿

By interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system—which plays a role in memory, mood, inflammation, and neurological balance—medical c*nnabis may help support comfort, quality of life, and day-to-day functioning for some patients.

At Greenleaf, our clinicians work closely with patients and caregivers to determine whether medical c*nnabis may be an appropriate option, with education, guidance, and ongoing support every step of the way 🤝

If you or someone you care for is living with Alzheimer’s disease and looking for additional supportive care options, we’re here to help.

New clinical research is highlighting a potential way to support breast cancer patients experiencing treatment-related pain 💡

Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are commonly prescribed for hormone receptor–positive breast cancer, but up to two-thirds of patients develop aromatase inhibitor–induced musculoskeletal syndrome (AIMSS)—a condition marked by joint pain, stiffness, and reduced hand function 🖐️.

These symptoms can significantly impact daily life and make it harder for patients to stay on treatment.

A randomized clinical trial published in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research evaluated topical CBD-dominant and THC-dominant balms in women with stage I–III breast cancer experiencing AIMSS.

Participants applied the balms to their hands three times daily over two weeks, with many continuing for an additional two weeks.

📊 Key findings:

• 86% of participants reported improved pain and hand function
• Greater improvement was observed in the THC-dominant group
• Treatments were well tolerated, with only mild, localized skin irritation reported
• No systemic absorption or hormone level changes were observed

These findings suggest topical, localized therapies may offer a promising supportive care option to help improve comfort, function, and quality of life for breast cancer survivors 💗

Muscle spasticity — marked by stiffness, involuntary muscle contractions, and spasms — can significantly affect daily life for people living with neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, or post-stroke complications.

For some patients, conventional treatments may offer limited relief or come with challenging side effects. As a result, interest has grown around medical c*nnabis as a potential adjunct therapy for managing spasticity-related symptoms.

Research suggests that cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in neuromuscular signaling and muscle tone regulation. In clinical settings, some patients report improvements in spasticity severity, comfort, and overall quality of life when medical cannabis is carefully integrated into their care plan.

At Greenleaf, we believe medical c*nnabis care should be personalized, evidence-informed, and guided by qualified healthcare professionals. Every patient’s experience is different — which is why education, assessment, and ongoing support matter.

If you’re living with spasticity and wondering whether medical c*nnabis may be an appropriate option for you, our team is here to help you explore your options in a safe and supportive environment.

About Us

The Greenleaf Medical Clinic was founded in 2011 and assesses patients across Canada for their eligibility into Health Canada's Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) program.

The ACMPR provides a legal framework for patients to legally use ma*****na for beneficial relief of various symptoms.

Our physician's role is to assess patient eligibility through chart review and/or discussions with the patients' primary care physician or specialist(s). When deemed eligible, an appointment is scheduled for either an on-site consultation or a tele-medicine appointment through VSee. Tele-medicine consultations accommodate patients that cannot travel to our clinic due to illness or distance. Tele-Medicine allows patients across the country to benefit from our services that are otherwise unavailable. In either case, the physician will complete the required medical document authorizing the patient to use cannabis as medicine.

Following the patient/physician consultation, the patient will work with one of the clinic's medical office assistants to decide on the licensed commercial producer that best suits their requirements. Strains will be recommended as per the physicians chart notes and past patient experiences.
