Welcome to the world, Lark Sophia Grace 💛
Born at home March 31st, we are both doing great, she is healthy and adjusting to the noise level of her two older siblings 🤗 We are all enjoying her snuggles!

Fill your house with the smells of Autumn while you wait for homemade apple cider.... thanks for the amazing apples 🍎
This recipe comes from ‘Preppy Kitchen’; next on the list is pumpkin pie (via Minimalist Baker) and roasted turkey (from our local Meridian Meats). I love thanksgiving!

The Great Blue Heron has always felt like a symbol for me, a reminder that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. Today I packed up the kids and enjoyed a short trip to the beach, to say goodbye to summer and prepare for the transition into a new routine. We don’t know what we face ahead, but we are exactly where we need to be right now. I’ll take it.

This weekend I was ‘surprised by joy’. I always wrestled with this idea that joy is something we can’t control - gratitude is a practice, but you certainly can’t fake joy. It comes to you as a gift.
We spent two nights in the woods, by the lake, far away from cell service and quick trips to the grocery store. The kids had late bedtimes, the dishes were done by hand, and the sand got in everything.
And while I was worried our test trip would turn out disastrous, it was full of those everyday miracles. The warmth of the sun, the giggles of happy kids, cold crisp water, bright stars.
We can’t fake joy. We can only receive it, be open to it, surrender to it. This trip humbled me, and I will hold this joy with a grateful heart. 💛

I’m back in the clinic! We are open for patients again, with limited staff (one doctor in at a time), lots of sanitizing, and 6’ spacing in the rooms. We will be wearing masks and gloves, but this means we can now provide IVs, acupuncture, and physical assessments as needed. My heart feels full, I guess this really confirms how much I love my job 😂💛

Sleep has been an issue for both my kids since this pandemic started, and then last night we all had a deep, peaceful sleep. What a gift.
Perhaps we are finding a new normal, perhaps both kids were going through a growth spurt (great timing), or perhaps it’s a combination of things (as it often is). Either way, it brings me hope. It reminds me that ‘this too shall pass’, and that - especially with kids - we have to hold on loosely to what we think we can control.
As we are all making adjustments in this time, I wonder what we are slowly letting go of - is it obvious? Are we still trying to control it? Or are we slowly surrendering, grieving and growing?
May we all find a peace that passes understanding as we work through our challenges. 💛

What can I do, as a Naturopath, in the midst of this pandemic?
I’ve been wrestling with this question - I’m a health care professional, but I’m certainly not on the front lines. If anything, I’m in the background - at home, doing telemedicine, connecting with patients on the phone. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like enough. And sometimes it does - managing my own frustrations or anxieties while raising kids who miss their community... it can feel overwhelming at times.
I think about my patients who are teachers and adjusting to a virtual role, or those in the restaurant industry who are adapting to delivery/pick up, or patients who have flat out lost their jobs. We are all impacted in some way, and never has it been more clear to me how we all need each other.
So, what can I do as a Naturopath? The same thing I can do as a mom, or a friend, or a human being - to be present, to have courage, and to do these small things with great love.

Once again we find ourselves trying to find a new rhythm, a new normal. Deep breath.
Things will look different at the clinic too - we are determined to keep our most vulnerable patients safe, and so we have decided to switch completely to phone consultations. Our hours will change slightly and the adjustment might have a few ups and downs, but then a new rhythm will settle in to place. Despite the distancing, we are all in this together.
To those who are my patients, I am here for you - to navigate any uncertainties, to continue your health journey, and to celebrate your healing. 💛

Navigating the holidays with two young kids feels a bit like learning to skate - mostly fun, a few stumbles, and better with lots of support :) ❄️
Now it’s time to reflect on the past year and set some intentions for the new one. I hope you prioritize your health and wellness, and if you need some direction I’m here to be YOUR support 🙂

People are better than presents. 🎄
If I needed any reminder, this weekend was confirmation. My heart was filled from Christmas tree decorating & celebrating our boy's first birthday with family and friends. In a season that promotes such opposite things (spend time and money on the best gift! oh wait, the best gift is your presence!), choose people. Choose a simple gift that lets you spend more time with the person you're giving it to. Choose what works for your time, your budget, your health - so that you are less stressed and more present. 😏
Because, we need less stuff and more community.
I've said it before, but I truly believe community is healing. ✨

Catching some rays while it lasts! Look how long those shadows are and it’s only noon 😬 A good reminder why Canadians need to be taking Vitamin D throughout the winter (or all year) - we don’t get near enough sunshine to saturate our cells, and Vit D impacts our immune system, mood, bone formation, and even reduces inflammation 💪🏼
