Wendy is a compassionate and dedicated professional with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and specialized training in Brainspotting and Internal Family Systems (IFS) trauma-informed therapy. With a strong foundation in psychological principles, Wendy brings a holistic and empathetic approach to her work. Her experience in addiction counseling has equipped her with the skills to support individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues. Wendy’s commitment to trauma-informed care and her expertise in Brainspotting and IFS techniques allows her to provide a safe and nurturing space for clients to heal and thrive. She is dedicated to helping individuals navigate their personal journeys towards recovery and well-being.

We specialize in long term recovery for men and women suffering from addiction, alcoholism, substance abuse, substance misuse, and mental health issues. Our program has daily groups, weekly individual counseling and holistic treatment in a therapeutic community in beautiful Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Matt is a substance abuse therapist who has been accredited by the Asia Pacific Certification Board and the International Association of Trauma Professionals.
Matt has over 14 years of experience in the addiction and mental health industry.
Matt started his career in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where he lived prior to moving to Thailand in 2013.
Matt specializes in high risk youth and clients suffering from mental health and addiction issues
Matt has worked extensively in both inpatient addiction treatment programs and outpatient facilities in Thailand, as well has his own private practice.��Matt previously worked at The Edge Youth program , one of the only treatment programs in Thailand , designed for young adults. This program specifically specialized in failure to launch, behavioural problems, ODD , ADHD, addiction , mental health, depression, anxiety , low self esteem issues, family problems, fitness, relapse prevention strategies, alcoholism, kickboxing, life skills training, how to deal with peer pressure and having fun in recovery.
The edge youth program was one of the most successful youth addiction treatment programs in the world before it closed during Covid 19 pandemic.
Many Canadian clients and their families today, still credit Matt for their loved ones long term success of being clean off drugs and alcohol still today . Also how he had a major impact and helped shape their loved ones new life .
Many clients state , they only stayed at the sober house or the addiction treatment facility in Thailand because of Matt’s positive attitude towards recovery and supporting those that struggled with addiction.
As someone in long term recovery himself, Matt is able to share his own personal , experience, strength and hope with our clients and letting families see how passionate Matt is about helping others recover from addiction.

Question about our facility ?
#1 Can you be on m**hadone or op**te replacement treatment? -
We do not accept people on m**hadone , benzodiazepines or op**te replacement therapy.
#2 Can you rent a scooter or drive a car while at the facility?
No we don’t let clients rent scooters.
Due to 65% of accidents in thailand involve foreigners. Even though scooter companies let you rent a scooter with a foreign driver’s license. . You’re not covered incase of accident.
We like to have our clients to stick together and engage in recovery together. Not take off on a scooter and be anti social from the house.
#3 can you smoke w**d at the sober house ? No we are a 100% Abstinence based program.

#5 do you I get my own room ?
Yes we have 6 private single rooms with king size beds.
#6 how do I get a visa extension?
We help clients get to immigration to renew their visas or we also have a private contracted driver to do boards runs .
#7 can I have my cell phone and computer?
Internet, Phones & Media:
a) Phones – All clients are expected to have a mobile phone and be able to be contacted by staff at all times. Phones handed in at 8am and returned after group.
b) Internet – no inappropriate sites (po*******hy and gambling)
c) TV – Be respectful of other clients if using the TV’s. It’s important to be sensitive to the needs of other clients. No TV’s on before 4pm.
d) Clients are not to use dating apps like Tinder, etc. while a resident of Start Today Recovery Center
We also have x box and PlayStation 5 for clients to play on their down time hours and weekends.
#8 can my family visit ?
Yes we allow families to visit their loved ones and encourage families to be apart of their new recovery plan . We can also connect families with a family program at an extra charge if needed.
Do I have a curfew?
Yes you do.
6. Curfew:
a) Keep a healthy sleep pattern.
b) Curfew is 9:30pm every night unless an exception has been made and approved by your counselor or the manager
c) After 10:00pm is quiet time. Please be respectful of others.
d) There is an expectation for clients to be up by 7am and attend the Just for Today reading at 8am. (9am on weekends)
Rules of the house . All groups and activities on the Start Today schedule are mandatory. As clients move into their second/third month options to engage in service and/or volunteer may be available (this being dependent on the client’s progress).
Clients are expected to keep their room and personal space tidy and to make their beds each morning. Laundry is the client’s responsibility, but a washing machine is available.
Clients are required to attend a minimum of five fellowship meetings per week.
Refund Policy
We require a $1000USD deposit in advance to secure your room and prepare for your stay prior to arrival. This deposit is non-refundable.
The remaining balance of any payment due for your stay at Start Today Recovery Center is to be made upon arrival. Should any resident wish to leave our treatment facility for any reason within 5 days of their arrival, we will issue a refund of the remaining days minus a $1000USD administration fee. This can take the bank up to two weeks to process. After 5 days if a resident wishes to leave for any reason no refund will be given.
In cases of an involuntary discharge and termination of occupancy due to a breach of the “Rules, Boundaries and Expectations” and “Behavioural Contract”, no refund will be given.
Rules, Boundaries and Expectations
1. Substance use:
a) There is zero tolerance for use of any mood or mind altering substances including alcohol. Any contravention of this policy will in all cases result in immediate termination of occupancy at Start Today Recovery Center.
b) The above policy Includes:
- All Illicit drugs
- Alcohol of any kind
- Over the counter Medications (unless cleared in advance by the manager)
- Prescribed medications (unless cleared in advance by the manager)
- Steroids and other performance enhancing drugs
c) Clients are to keep the house and community safe from drugs and alcohol – if you are aware of anyone else using in the house, you must make your counselor aware immediately.
Drug testing:
All Start Today Recovery Center clients may be urine and breath tested regularly to ensure compliance with our substance use policy. All clients are expected to comply with tests when asked. Failure to comply will result in an involuntary discharge.
Meal Times:
a) Breakfast provided – 8:15 to 9.15am
Basic food items (eggs, bread, cereal, yoghurt) provided and tea and coffee
b) Lunch – A basic set menu will be provided and clients are expected to cook and prepare them together if eating. Client’s may opt-out and provide their own lunch self-financed if they so choose.
