As pediatric speech-language pathologists, play is at the heart of everything we do πŸ§ΈπŸ’¬

Every toy, every interaction, and every routine is chosen intentionally to target communication goals.
β€¨βœ¨Play helps children learn to take turns, ask for help, express emotions, and connect language to real experiences β€” all while feeling engaged and confident.

Because when therapy feels fun, progress comes naturally πŸ’™

Many parents worry that exposing their child to two languages might cause confusion or delays β€” but research shows the opposite.

🧠 Bilingualism does not cause speech or language delays.

πŸ’¬ Mixing languages (code-switching) is a normal and healthy part of bilingual development.

🏠 Parents can confidently speak their strongest language at home β€” this supports richer vocabulary and stronger communication skills.

🌟 October is AAC Awareness Month 🌟

What is AAC?
AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) includes tools and strategiesβ€”like picture symbols, communication boards, and speech-generating devicesβ€”that support or replace spoken language.

Why is it important?
AAC gives children a way to express themselves, build connections, and participate more fully in their world. It doesn’t stop speechβ€”it opens doors to language and learning.

πŸ’– We are so proud of this little one and the amazing progress he’s making. Every symbol he points to is a step toward greater confidence, independence, and connection. Because every voice deserves to be heard.

✨ This week in speech we used the Sorting Pie with a sensory bin to target so many goals in a fun, hands-on way!

🍎 Language: naming fruits, colors, and describing (big/small, soft/hard).
🌈 Categories: sorting by color and type.
πŸ—£οΈ Speech sounds: practicing /p/ in β€œpear, pie, purple, apple”
🀝 Social skills: turn-taking, requesting, and commenting with peers.
🧠 Concepts: following directions, same vs. different, more/less.

Play-based learning keeps kids motivated while addressing multiple goals at once πŸ’‘πŸŒπŸ‡
