Today, as we celebrate International Volunteer Day, we want to shine a light on the incredible volunteers who make the Lethbridge Therapeutic Riding Association the place it is. 🐴💛

Pictured here are only a small portion of the many dedicated individuals who generously share their time and talents with us. Whether you’re helping in the barn, supporting lessons, setting up or taking down events, serving on our board, or contributing to our fundraising task force, every role you fill strengthens our organization.

Your willingness to step in wherever you’re needed—whether in programs, at community events, or behind the scenes—helps create meaningful opportunities and lasting memories for our riders and their families.

We are so grateful for your commitment and all the ways you show up for LTRA. Thank you for being part of our community and for the difference you make every day.

We’re currently looking to welcome new volunteers to our team for our Therapeutic Riding Program starting in the new year. If you’re interested in spending time with horses while making a meaningful impact in your community, we’d love to have you join us. A big LTRA thank-you to Cornerstone Funeral Home Ltd. and Lethbridge Hearing Centre! 💛🐴

As part of their 30 Days of Giving campaign, these amazing volunteers spent the day with us refreshing our pass-through space — a project that makes a huge difference but is far too big for just one or two sets of hands. Because of their hard work, the space is now warm, inviting, and ready to support our growing programs (including much-needed tack storage!).

We are so grateful for your time, energy, and commitment to giving back. Community partners like you help keep LTRA moving forward. 💛

Thank you — we appreciate you! 🙌🐴

We are honoured to be supported by some amazing businesses whose commitment to our community doesn’t stop at LTRA! We couldn’t be prouder to call Dennis' Dirtworx Ltd a friend and love to see all the great things they do in Southern Alberta. Take some time to support this great cause if you can!

One of our favourite events of the year!!! The crews from Dennis' Dirtworx Ltd and Overweg Trucking Ltd. will be joining the cruise for our 5th year to help get the word out about the Angel Tree Christmas Campaign! Make sure to watch us as we roll down Mayor Magrath Drive and make our way to the Exhibtion Grounds where we will be helping to collect toy donations for the kids in our surrounding communities. What an amazing way to kick off the holidays and show our Christmas spirit.

We are deeply honoured to have been nominated for the Spirit of Reconciliation Award at this year’s Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards.

At the Lethbridge Therapeutic Riding Association, inclusion extends well beyond disability services — it means ensuring that access, representation, and belonging are reflected in all that we do and in every community we serve.

Our journey in reconciliation has been one of listening, learning, and walking alongside our Indigenous partners with humility. The joint ventures we’ve shared with Homefire Wellness, Honouring Traditions, Alberta Health Services, and the Indigenous Sports Council of Alberta have been both a privilege and a gift — reminding us that reconciliation is not a single act, but an ongoing commitment to respect and collaboration.

Our heartfelt thanks go to every Elder, partner, and contributor who has guided this journey and patiently taught us along the way. Your wisdom and trust continue to shape how we serve, connect, and grow as a community.

Congratulations to all the incredible nominees and to the Bank of Montreal on their well-deserved win. We are grateful to be part of a community that continues to grow together in the spirit of understanding, inclusion, and connection.

FYI: Recent confirmed case of EIA in Southern Alberta

From Alert: “On October 1, 2025, positive equine infectious anemia (EIA) results were confirmed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) national reference laboratory for a horse located on a premises in Foothills County, Alberta. The owners requested an accredited veterinarian test the horse for EIA prior to participation in a competition. No clinical signs of disease were noted by the veterinarian at the time of sampling. A CFIA investigation is underway and as per program policy, movement controls have been placed on the infected horse and any on-premises contact animals. Initial reports indicate there are other equines on the affected premises. Movement controls will remain until all disease response activities have been completed, including follow-up testing and ordering the destruction of confirmed cases. Trace-out activities may require the CFIA to undertake actions at additional premises as outlined in the current policy. Improved biosecurity protocols have been strongly recommended to the owners to help control the ongoing spread of EIA and protect our national herd.”

Updates on current disease outbreaks are listed here as they occur and will include the date listed, disease name, location and current status. Specific premises will not be named but the general location by town, county and state will be listed. When locations, events or horses are at risk they wil...
