May these words land in your consciousness, remembrance, and sense of safety.
Attachment dysfunction is not a relationship failure.
It is nervous system dysregulation.
When the autonomic nervous system does not feel safe, the body prioritizes survival over connection. Withdrawal, shutdown, and avoidance are not character flaws. They are protective physiological responses. This is why regulation must begin in the body, not the mind.
A simple, nervous-system-informed reset:
Inhale 6 · Hold 6 · Exhale 8
Repeat 4–6 cycles.
A longer exhale increases parasympathetic (vagal) activity and improves heart rate variability, key markers of nervous system safety.
Add gentle rhythmic movement, such as soft arm flapping and light leg wiggling. This supports lymphatic flow and helps reduce neuroimmune threat signaling that keeps the system on high alert.
Together, breath and movement shift the body from protection to permission.
When safety is restored, connection no longer needs to be forced. It emerges naturally, as the body returns to homeostasis.
