Today, as we observe Good Friday, we pause in the quiet.

At Martin Brothers, our commitment has always been about Honouring Traditions. We recognize that for the many families we serve, today carries a unique weight and a specific set of customs. Whether those traditions are rooted in long-standing faith, quiet family rituals, or the simple act of gathering, we believe there is a deep, restorative dignity in upholding them.

Good Friday is a day that holds space for both sorrow and reflection. It reminds us that there is a deep, quiet dignity in honoring loss, and that even in the shadows, there is hope.

However you are choosing to spend this day—whether in traditional observance or in private remembrance—we wish you a day of peace and gentle reflection.

Putting pen to paper can be daunting, but we’ve got some tips to get you started when writing an obituary about your loved one.

1. Start with the basics – Include the full name, age, place of residence, and date of passing.
2. Share key life details – Mention important milestones like education, career, military service, or community involvement.
3. Capture their spirit – Add a few personal touches: hobbies, passions, or quirks that made them unique.
4. List close family – Include surviving and predeceased family members using clear, respectful language.
5. Add service details – Provide information about funeral or memorial services, including date, time, and location.
6. Keep it authentic – Write in a tone that matches their personality—formal, warm, humorous, or heartfelt.
