To The Core Pilates/Health and Wellness Pilates/Health and Wellness
To The Core Pilates and Nutrition is a locally owned studio that turns 17 this year!

Located just west of the downtown core we are massive supporters of our local charities as well as huge advocates for Discover Lloydminster and Think Lloyd First programs. Owned and operated by Donna Schellenberg, we began as a small family oriented facility which has grown with her own family over the years. We treat our clients as a part of our family and believe everyone that steps through our doors deserves the absolute best of what we have to offer. Our purpose has always been to awaken a life of limitless joy in others. Although that may sound strange to some, our clients have overcome massive obstacles that impacted every area of their lives. When you're in pain it's tough to enjoy life. It's difficult to move well, do the activities you love with the people you love the most. Often pain impacts incomes and jobs. Most often it impacts our relationships, our sense of self worth and our confidence. Finding joy in moving again gives people back their freedom and a new outlook for the future. We are proud to help people do just that. At To the Core Pilates & Nutrition it is our mission to encourage lifestyle choices that will improve health over the long term and to improve the quality of life of every client. We offer Therapeutic Pilates and specialize in pre and post natal health as well as post rehab care for hip and knee replacements as well as spinal issues such as scoliosis or disc herniations. To the Core also offers personalized Nutrition Coaching. We work with you to develop smart, effective eating choices to meet your fitness and health goals. Together, we will develop and analyze your habits, dietary needs, and track your progress with the support and resources you need. We believe in creating healthy and sustainable habits that last a lifetime and creating realistic goals and expectations for ourselves. No quick fixes or "no pain, no gain" workouts to be found here. We teach our clients to be proactive about their health, listen to their own bodies and to become advocates for their own health and wellness.

Do you ever find yourself sitting on the edge of the bed in the morning, taking a deep breath before you stand up?

For our client Michelle, that first step used to come with a sharp pinch in her lower back. Her hips seemed stuck in the morning and she was doing the 'shuffle' for the first few steps until things loosened up. She thought she just had to live with it because of years at an office desk and long weekends helping on the farm. So to start we worked on breathing, stability, and mobilizing her spine in her very first class and within a few weeks her morning steps starting changing.

The mentality of "no pain, no gain" is a lie that keeps you hurting. The truth is that you can start moving better exactly as you are right now. You don't need to push harder. You just need to move better.

Pilates teaches you the tools to get your breathing and moving better so you feel confident inside the studio and outside doing everything else.

Comment "ME" if you are ready to stop fearing that first step in the morning.

Yes, I’m talking to you.

The woman who’s been pushing through the pain for years, trying to hold it all together for everyone else.

When I was struggling with chronic pain, I was trapped in a vicious cycle.

It hurts → I’m exhausted → I can’t → and then I’d start all over again.

Every day was about surviving. Getting up. Putting on a brave face. Taking pain pills just to get through work or make it through the day.

Deep down, I knew what I needed to do to start healing, but the emotional side of pain kept pulling me under.
I got stuck in my “I can’t.”

I forgot all the things I could still do.

I was stuck in my story.
And maybe that’s where you are, too.

Because if you truly “knew what to do,” you’d be doing it.
You wouldn’t still be stuck in pain, you’d be reclaiming your life.

The truth?

You’ve missed the foundations. The simple, powerful things that your body and mind need first.

You’ve tried quick fixes, pills, and advanced techniques before you even built your base.

But real healing doesn’t come from a shortcut.

It comes from rebuilding from the inside out gently, intentionally, and with guidance.

That’s what my clients and I work on together:
* shifting from “I can’t” to “I can.”
* learning to listen to our bodies instead of fighting them.
* building strength, confidence, and peace from the ground up.

And that’s where the magic happens.

When you change your mindset and rebuild your foundation your body starts to change, too.

If you’re ready to finally move past pain and rediscover what’s possible simply reach out. It’s the answer you’ve been searching for. You just didn’t know it yet. 😊

Happy New Year's Eve!

As we get ready to flip the calendar to January, you might be hearing a lot of talk about New Year's resolutions. We don't really believe in the "New Year, New You" pressure so we wanted to end the year focusing on something else - gratitude.

We know that life is about more than just checking off a list or chasing a certain look. It is about building memories with your family and feeling comfortable and confident as you move through your day. Instead of looking at what we want to change or "fix," we want to end this year by looking at what we already have.

Gratitude helps us stay focused on long term health and healing. It reminds us why we show up for ourselves and our movement practice every week.

Before the celebrations start, we would love to hear from you. What is one thing you are grateful for from this past year or this holiday season?

Alright! You’ve been making amazing changes to your eating habits this year, and you want to keep that momentum going through the holiday season. 💪✨

Part of why we feel out of control this time of year is that “last-chance” mindset - like we won’t get to enjoy these foods again until next December.
Right? …Right! 😅

But enjoying yourself is part of the season ... and yes, that includes all the delicious festive food. So don’t stress. I’ve got you covered.

Here are a few simple strategies to help you stay balanced and feel good over the next few weeks:

1️⃣ Drink more water
Your secret weapon! With shopping, traveling, and cooler temps, hydration is easy to forget. Water helps keep you energized, satisfied, and can take the edge off too much sugar or alcohol.

2️⃣ Be present with your plate
Slow down. Savor every bite. Avoid distractions like TV or scrolling while you’re eating. Stop when you feel about 80% full - comfortably satisfied.

3️⃣ Snack smart
Skipping meals usually backfires. Keep healthy snacks available so you’re not stuck grabbing whatever shows up in front of you later.

4️⃣ Zoom out and remember the big picture
One party or treat won’t derail your progress. Choose the foods you truly love (not just the ones that are there), and consider enjoying them more than once a year to avoid that “must eat it all now” feeling.

So enjoy the holidays and all the time with friends and family. The habits you want to implement are important all year round and not just during the holidays when you notice them the most.

I put my instructors on the spot and
asked them to get down on the ground without bending their knees.

A lot of laughter was the end result. I didn’t explain it at all so there was a little confusion and they had no time to problem solve or
decide the best path forward.

The reality is that many people become unable to do this skill (Megan has recently had a knee surgery and can’t straighten her leg all the way for example).

But our inability to get down and up off the ground has long term impacts.

How are your ankles, hips, spine and shoulders moving when I take away your knees? If you’ve fallen can you get back up? How’s the flexibility to move in this pattern?

Give it a try and see how you do. Is this something you want to add to your practice to maintain long term independence?

If you’re seeing this and saying “there’s no way” or “I can’t” then you need to come see us. Move for longevity and independence with Pilates.

Then and now.

Just a little throwback moment to the studio Christmas parties of the past. Had to dig back in the archives to find a picture from the 2019 year.

Instructors Brooke and Lorelie have been at To The Core for a combined total 15 years! That's A LOT of Pilates and a lot of counting out hundreds. 😁

Having such knowledgable and well trained instructors on staff ensures that we can collaborate as team to find the best exercise solutions for our lovely Pilates community and it means you are in good hands when you start your practice here.

They had a few words of encouragement about what they love most about teaching and why starting slow with our Foundations class is so important for beginners to Pilates...

Brooke - "I always like to say that the purpose of Pilates isn't to be amazing at Pilates, it's so you can feel great doing everything else. I started my Pilates journey as a student in Foundations class due to chronic low back pain and hip issues at just 22, so I really understand the struggle of not feeling confident in your body and wanting to move more but not knowing where to start. I love helping clients learn to strengthen their bodies without additional injury and providing a safe and encouraging class to explore movement again. Starting with the basics is key to a really strong Pilates practice."

Lorelie - " I had been teaching fitness class for several years before I found Pilates and it changed everything for me. I wanted to help people actually enjoy working out and find ways of exercising that were challenging but still safe and fun. Pilates has also unlocked a whole new level of understanding of movement for me that has helped me be a better instructor, helped me in my own movement practice and allows me to share my love of all kinds of exercise to our clients. I want my clients to feel stronger, more confident and accomplished not just in their classes but in all aspects of their lives."

Movement is medicine.

Drop us 💯 if you agree or let us know how Pilates has helped you. Past or present clients - we want to hear from you!
