A great deal of research has been done on the importance of activity
for our physical and mental health. Even increasing your activity by
small amounts makes a difference. By doing just 6 minutes of added
activity per day can help us to improve mobility, brain function and
decrease our risk of developing mobility issues. This can be done by
walking within your home. Pausing your Netflix show for just 6 minutes
and walking in your home will accomplish this goal.
Our physiotherapists at Meridian Spine & Joint understand the
importance of activity. They will work with you to increase your
mobility, balance, strength, and walking ability. Call us at 519-471-7900 to work on increasing your physical health today.

Physical activity and strengthening are integral to our health and well being. A recent publication in the American College of Sports Medicine has reported that doing 30-60 minutes per week of resistance strength exercises could help us to live longer. The research supports that even 30 minutes per day of brisk walking will contribute to our longevity. Two days per week of resistance strengthening exercises will contribute to improving our health. Prior to starting an exercise program, you may want to consult with one of our physiotherapists. We will complete a detailed assessment and get you started on a comprehensive physical activity program that is right for you! Cervical spondylosis is a general term for age-related wear and tear affecting the spinal disks in your neck. As the discs dehydrate and shrink, signs of osteoarthritis develop, including bony projections along the edges of bones (bone spurs). Cervical spondylosis is very common and worsens with age. More than 85% of people older than age 60 are affected by cervical Spondylosis. (mayoclinic.org)

Conservative treatment, such as physiotherapy, is extremely helpful for the treatment of cervical Spondylosis. At Meridian Spine & Joint, our clinicians have expertise in assessment, treatment and management of cervical Spondylosis. Call us today at (519) 471-7900 to get started!

Pain felt in the front of the knee is often due to the patellar tendon. The patellar tendon attaches the bottom of the kneecap (patella) to the top of the shinbone (tibia). Irritation of this tendon can be due to strain, repetitive stress, degenerative changes and abnormal tracking of the knee cap. This is often due to muscle tightness and weakness of the hip and knee musculature.

At Meridian Spine & Joint Physiotherapy, our physiotherapists will assess your lower leg and determine the best evidence based treatment to ensure optimal recovery.

Physiotherapists and Massage Therapists must understand the anatomy of the joints of the body to properly assess the area and determine the root of the problem. The four primary muscles of the shoulder, known as the rotator cuff, are responsible for stability, mobility and function of the shoulder.

At Meridian Spine & Joint Physiotherapy, we will complete a detailed complete shoulder assessment and develop an individualized treatment plan to rehabilitate your shoulder and upper body.

It is never too late to start exercising. Exercising can be modified based on your background and abilities. As we get older we can become more frail, and this is when exercise is especially important to our overall physical and psychosocial health.
