If you’re an EMDR therapist, curious about parts work and IFS, step 1 is for you!

Step 1 is where many therapists experience a shift in how they understand both their clients and themselves in the therapy room. Intro to IFS for EMDR Therapists offers a foundational, experiential introduction to Internal Family Systems through a trauma-informed lens.

In this two-day live workshop, you’ll learn the language of parts, the role of Self-energy, and how internal systems organize around protection and healing. For EMDR-trained clinicians, Step 1 provides essential context for understanding what emerges in session when trauma processing activates protectors, avoidance, or internal conflict.

This training is not about memorizing techniques—it’s about developing a compassionate, relational framework that enhances safety and clarity in your work. Whether IFS is new to you or something you’ve encountered but want to understand more deeply, Step 1 lays the groundwork for meaningful integration.

I had the privilege to be part of another syzygy training last week, and this little nugget was shared. It’s simple but profound for those who really understand the work.

It’s a simple way to explain that in trauma work what we are doing on a fundamental level is attuning to our clients, following their lead, anticipating their needs as best we can, responding to where our clients “are at” and pulling U turns, reversing and revisiting as needed.

Why? Because unless we’re dealing with a single incident trauma (like a car accident), TRUST was broken. Either in the initial action or in the actions that followed (or didn’t follow) as a result.

Trust was broken. So now, to heal, we move at the speed of trust.

This is such a hot take! We’re all living in the patriarchy, but it affects us differently. And those differences matter, as much as they are a guide in our ways forward.
