Are you a parent or a guardian of an aspiring young dancer?

Are you teaching the next generation of artist athletes this coming fall?

I’m holding a free mini-workshop on Artist Wellness 101 this Saturday just for you 😉. Topics of discussion will be:
- Common dance injuries
- How you can help decrease your child/student’s risk of injury
- How to deal with an injury if it happens!
- Implications of Covid19
- What is a dance screening and should I be taking advantage of that?

Artist Athletes.
It’s not a trending hashtag or the catch phrase of the szn. It’s an accurate reflection of what is essential, and often UNDERESTIMATED, in the life of a performing artist. It’s time to expose the truth of how much athleticism different forms of art require: breaking, contemporary, aerial arts, ballet, etc.
Considering the increased physical demands of high training volumes that are variable (no official off-season), the risk of injuries in dancers are real! And they are the most underserved type of athletes in existence. So, I want to educate my fellow artists and the next generation dancers about the importance of fitness, mental well-being, and self care. Stay tuned for the where we will feature several artist athletes and talk injuries, training tips and love for movement.

tip of the day:

Dancer wellness is a topic that is slowly gaining traction in the rehab world. For a dancer to perform at their best, we need to address their physical, mental and emotional profiles. Similar to how each sport is different, each type of dance has its own unique demands and movement skills to consider.

Join me in my dance rehab journey as I explore what wellness can look like for performing artists! In the meantime, catch me tomorrow afternoon in Toronto providing physiotherapy services at Unity Fest 2019!!! Go to for more details on the event.

Dance well, dance always✌🏽

tip of the day

In honour of Rowan’s Law Day, I want to give light on concussion safety. If you have a headache, feel nauseated, have difficulty concentrating or become sensitive to light after taking a hit on your noggin, do not ignore these symptoms!

Low rates of reporting injury are shown in athletes because of FOMO (“I really don’t want to miss the next game/competition/performance”) and shrugging off their symptoms as insignificant (“guys, it’s really not that bad”). A concussion is a traumatic brain injury that needs TIME TO HEAL. The risk of experiencing a second concussion when one has not fully recovered from the first one is high in contact sports but is also relevant in performing artists. The consequences of Second Impact Syndrome can be carastrophic, but PREVENTABLE!

tip of the day: Strive for Happiness, always. Happiness may mean different things to different people. Same goes for our wellness. Earlier this year, I held a session on “Healthy is Happy”, which touched on a lot of the factors discussed in this infographic and reinforced by a study conducted by Duke Uni. Be kind to yourself, let go of negativity, give back to others and be present!
