Today, many of us in so-called Canada will gather around tables to share food, memories, and warmth.
And there’s something deeply beautiful in that.
But the truth is, Canadian Thanksgiving doesn’t exist in a vacuum. While it doesn’t carry the same direct legacy as the American myth, it’s still rooted in settler-colonial ideas of “peaceful harvest” — on land that was never ceded.
Gratitude is powerful — when it’s not divorced from responsibility.
This year, we invite you to approach Thanksgiving not just as a celebration, but as a moment of reflection:
🌾 What do we inherit?
🌾 Who do we thank?
🌾 How do we repair?
We’re not here to guilt or shame — those aren’t tools of transformation. But we are here to name the complexity and to honour the Indigenous peoples who continue to steward this land, often without recognition or justice.
We are grateful — for you, for this community, and for the chance to keep learning how to show up better.
Wishing you a nourishing weekend, however you spend it. 🧡 From the team at Embodied Resilience
