Who is : “CANADIAN VIBE?”
In addition to the resources and educational material we shared with our staff this month to honour Canada’s Black History Month, East Village Animal Hospital would like our supporters to learn about VIBE:
(Shared from Canadian VIBE Network )

“We are the Canadian VIBE (Veterinary professionals Instilling Black Excellence) Network! A non-profit started by three Black veterinary students at the Ontario Veterinary College. Our network was launched to craft a collaborative network of Black veterinary professional throughout Canada.

Why establish the network 🤷🏽

Diversity matters! There is a noticeable lack of diversity within the veterinary profession. As of 2016, Black Ontarians make up 16.5% of the province, while Black veterinary students account for less than 1% of the students enrolled at OVC.

The Canadian VIBE Network aims to address this underrepresentation through several objectives:

1️⃣Building an online directory of Black veterinary professionals 👩🏽‍⚕️

2️⃣Mentoring programs matching current veterinary professionals with pre-veterinary and veterinary students

3️⃣Partnering with industry to provide outreach programs for Black identifying youth interested in a veterinary career 👩🏾‍🎓🧑🏽‍🎓

4️⃣Live streamed webinars, events and podcasts for professional development and discussing race in medicine

Follow us for recent news on upcoming webinars, events and the launch of our online directory.

We appreciate all your support and interest in the Canadian VIBE Network. To register for our directory or support our network please click the links below 💛❤️💚

VACCINATE!
Our EVAHs are receiving many calls for HELP, and getting reports from other vet clinics in the same situations. Our teams are tired, doing their best, and implore you to be proactive by vaccinating your dog. The Parvovirus and Leptospirosis - both are present in parks, buildings, sidewalks, lawns etc and both are horribly expensive to treat (if treatment even an option when diagnosed), cause tremendous suffering for your dog, and and HIGHLY contagious! Vaccines are the very best defence, excellent efficacy and much more humane and less expensive than trying to treat diseases/viruses once transmitted.

Although we will miss seeing our Northern Ontario friends and clients this week, all appointments & surgeries will be rescheduled. Any questions, please email evahnorth@gmail.com

Quick response by Ottawa firefighters saved dog and home! Serves as a reminder of lithium-ion Battery danger (and the benefits of a crate trained pooch.)
“Lithium-ion batteries can pose a serious fire risk if they are damaged, punctured, crushed, or improperly handled. Residents are reminded to store items containing lithium-ion batteries safely, keep them out of reach of pets and children, and immediately stop using and properly dispose of any battery or device that shows signs of damage, swelling, overheating, or malfunction.”

Video from the family’s security camera shows the family dog had chewed a winter glove equipped with a lithium-ion battery used for heating the gloves. All reports at this time say the Dog is ok, and we assume was taken directly to a veterinarian to ensure no chemical or heat burns in his mouth.

HEY, DVMs! The East Village Animal Hospital has a rare opportunity for you to join us (due to multiple maternity leaves in our exceptional veterinary crew!) The reality of the need to continue to increase access to veterinary care for low income families means we are open for expressions of interest from veterinarians licensed to practice in Ontario. We are privately owned. We choose to operate as non profit. We welcome clinicians and surgeons, smiles and laughter, skills and creativity. One day a week? A few days a week? Shifts in our Southwestern Ontario (London, Hamilton, Kitchener) clinics, with options to sign on to our Mobile (on site in multiple Indigenous Communities and shelter/community outreach in Northern Ontario) team throughout the year.
Come on veterinary awesome possums, let’s chat! Send your CV / questions to evah1777@gmail.com

Monday January 5, 2026 our EVAH dream teams are back to standard business hours as listed on www.evah.ca . As privately owned veterinary clinics we continue to choose to provide non profit care to our many tens of thousands of patients who are relying on us! You’ll meet some new team members this year as we wish MUCH love and luck to some of our staff who have headed off to school this month, and as well two of our veterinarians who are on maternity leave. Your patience as the newer crew learn their tasks and roles is of course very important and we appreciate it.
