Why I believe learning to meditate is a cornerstone of transformation and why I meditate daily:
It's no secret that practicing healthy lifestyle habits often involves unlearning our basic impulses and adopting new thoughts around our actions.
My favourite example of this is our natural tendency to crave high-calorie, fattening foods. This is a result of our species evolving from scarcity of nutrition and (at that time) needing to consume whatever nutrients available in order to survive in our early stages of evolution. Of course, in today's day and age, we are surrounded by an excess of nutritional options and no longer require this instinct. However, it remains in our psyche, leading to a widespread difficulty with managing caloric intake among humans.
My point here is that we are tied to our roots in ways that aren't always logical due to our origins. For this reason, lifestyle advice is everywhere. Most of us are reading it daily or at least hearing about it on a regular basis, yet most of us are not implementing it in to our daily lives. Most of us recognize the value, often making plans for change and failing. Because we are, in some senses, inherently irrational, we fall back in to the same routine and can not understand why change is so difficult. I believe it's easy to feel overwhelmed with the excess of advice out there and to get caught on a 'treadmill of transformation'. Approaching transformation with a step-by-step attitude is, in my opinion, the key to escaping the treadmill. Beginning the process with mindset allows us to be mentally equipped to adopt other practices in the future, and meditation is widely regarded as one of the most powerful tools for focusing thoughts.
Main benefits of meditation include:
1. Reducing Stress
2. Controlling Anxiety
3. Promoting Emotional Health
4. Enhancing Self-Awareness
5. Lengthening Attention Span
Too long, don't read: Transformation begins with mindset, meditation is a powerful tool in combating illogical impulses and implementing healthy lifestyle practices.
