Volunteer Callers Needed!

VON Middlesex is looking for volunteer callers for our Telephone Reassurance (TR) and Cool Aid (Medical Info. Card) Programs. This opportunity allows you to volunteer from home by making friendly check-in calls - helping to keep clients safe and connected.

Telephone Reassurance (TR): Clients, who do not have anyone checking in on them regularly, receive a quick, daily check-in call from a friendly volunteer.

Cool Aid: Reminder calls to clients to update their medical cards, enabling first responders quick access to vital health information in case of a medical emergency.

Sometimes, the most meaningful volunteer stories aren’t about standing in the spotlight, they’re about choosing to stand beside others and lift them up.

To close our volunteer spotlight series, we’re honoured to share Kim’s experience within the Adult Day Program.

Kim has been volunteering with the Adult Day Program every Thursday since July 2025, bringing with her a lifetime of compassion, shaped by a career in nursing and a deep commitment to community care.

While ADP is the first volunteer role she has taken on, it’s clear the fit was a perfect one.

When asked about her experience, Kim speaks first about the Middlesex ADP team. She describes a group of professionals who lead with tremendous care, kindness, and respect. A team that encourages every client to participate, who celebrate successes both big and small, and who meet challenges with patience and dignity. Their supportive and inspiring approach is what motivates Kim to return week after week.

She admits that at first she felt hesitant, wanting to be sure she could truly contribute and add value but that hesitation quickly faded. The team welcomed her openly, guided her thoughtfully, and made her feel valued. In her words, “Volunteering with ADP has given me a sense of purpose.”

Among staff, Kim is known for her joyful energy and her natural ability to connect with clients. She takes time to listen to their stories and engage with genuine interest. She also brings added creativity into the program. On Valentine’s Day, Kim arrived with a tote full of craft supplies from her home, knowing the clients would enjoy using them to be creative.

For Kim, the greatest moments are often the quiet ones: helping a client have a good day, witnessing determination during an activity, or hearing laughter during a game. And perhaps most meaningfully, returning after a short absence to be greeted by a client with, “Kim, you’re back! Where have you been?”

Those moments are why Kim is so proud to call herself a VON volunteer. She speaks with gratitude about the positive experiences, the sense of belonging, and the genuine connections she’s found within the Adult Day Program.

Kim’s contribution reflects the very best of what community, collaboration, and compassionate care can look like in action.

Thank-you Kim, for choosing to share your time with the Middlesex Adult Day Program and for enriching both our VON team and the clients you serve.
