What if patterns in our DNA could help detect disease?
An episignature is a recurring pattern of DNA methylation—a chemical change that can turn genes on or off without altering the DNA sequence—associated with an underlying disorder or disease such as cancer. These patterns are considered biomarkers of disease and may also provide insights into how someone may respond to treatment, including whether certain therapies may work better for them.
The Verspeeten Clinical Genome Centre was the first in the world to use epigenomic profiles for common hereditary disorders, and conducts research on episignatures that has produced software used by diagnostic laboratories worldwide.
