As chief executive officer of Wounds Canada, Mariam is responsible for both the implementation of the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the organization. She is a chiropodist and diabetes educator by training and completed her Master’s in Educational Leadership. Mariam has also published, developed and lectured in multiple programs both nationally and internationally. She is also the vice president of D foot International. Through her different roles as an executive director, health-care practitioner and educator, researcher and faculty member for many well-recognized organizations, Mariam has extensive practical and professional experience in advancing public health policy and is respected as a strategic, visionary, system thinker.

Professional Development Foot Care Conference Speaker Misty Fortier RN, MN. She is the Director of the Credentialing Centre with the CNA.

The CAFCN ( Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses ) is working with Misty to develope the process for certification in Canada for foot care nurses. The CNA is doing the certification.

This will be some great information on what is coming down the road that will benefit foot care nurses.

Professional Development Foot Care Conference speaker Dr. Henry Chapeskie

Paradigm Paralysis: "It's overgrown Toeskin not Ingrown Nail"

The literature is overloaded with information that describes this problem as being related to the nail growing into the soft tissue of the toe. The actual evidence does not support this theory. Rather, the problem is due to pressure necrosis of the nail fold skin due to weight-bearing in people with excessive amount of tissue at the sides of the nail.

This presentation will explain this issue clearly and demonstrate that removal of the granulating infected nail fold skin results in a cosmetically excellent cure for this problem.

We have had this question quite a bit lately... How do I use Biological Indicators...

You must use 2 x BI's every 24hrs that you are going to use your autoclave... you can do as many loads as you want, in 24 hrs... but once that 24hrs is up, start over...
