“After being invited to take part in this campaign, I spent a few days wondering whether or not I was cut out to talk about self-love. I thought about discussing the fact that I love to paint my nails, crochet, go for runs and take pretty pictures, but the reality is that I haven’t done those things for myself in a long time. I’ve admittedly been feeling down, and while I can’t bring myself to do my usual self-love activities, I have learned a new way to love myself. And that is by being patient.
I am learning to be more patient and gentle with myself while understanding that self-love can take many different forms. Sometimes it does look like exploring creative outlets and doing yoga and trying new things, but other times it looks like getting out of bed, cutting yourself some slack, and taking a break. And both are OK. Self-love looks different for everybody, and can look different for yourself at different points in your life. Check in with yourself, be patient, be gentle, be understanding, and treat yourself like you would treat your close friends. And when you figure out what you need to do to feel your best, honour that, and give yourself credit!
Today’s acts of self love included treating myself to coffee, seeing a friend, and realizing that I am indeed cut out to take part in this campaign. And that’s something to be proud of.” -Samantha Lim
