London Coffee House:

We are extending our heartfelt sympathy to Robert Sinden’s wife Ellenore, his family, friends and church community at Gateway.

Robert is described as a very kind man with a huge heart for people. Ellenore asked that food remaining after celebrating her beloved husband be sent to Coffee House as it would be in keeping with his generous heart —to support individuals who are struggling.

This was so thoughtful as is being enjoyed throughout our extended hours today. We are open until 4:30 pm. Come inside, get warm and have something to eat. We’re here to help.

To Ellenore and family, and our friends at Gateway Church please know this kindness is so appreciated and we are holding you in our hearts as you mourn the loss of Robert.

My Sisters’ Place & London Coffee House:

We are beyond grateful to our friend Sue who arrived at the start of our overnight program with a generous donation to help us through bitterly cold temperatures.

This donation is from London District Labour Council and OPSEU/SEFPO Region 1 Area Council and Sue included some of her famous hand knit hats. Sue is not someone who sits with idle hands, they almost always have knitting needles in them. The hats she sells help to purchase needed items for programs like ours and she also donates many hats to be distributed to anyone who needs one.

Huge, huge thanks to the London District Labour Council and also to OPSEU/ SEFPO Region 1 Area 1. We are so grateful.

This is a throwback to a very special moment at My Sisters’ Place. We miss Diane dearly. She was a woman with many gifts, including her embroidery artistry. We are reminded of the women who spend time with us is all capacities—volunteering, student placements, staff members and participants in our program. What a privilege it is to be a part of this community of women.

A special thank you to our staff team who are doing all they can to welcome as many women as possible into our space and out of the dangerously cold temperatures. Once again we’d like to thank everyone who had a hand in helping us get overnight resting spaces open.

Thanks also to our community partners who have extended hours and services because they care so deeply for those we all support. No one should be left in the cold.

My Sisters’ Place:

Our friend and brother Costco Tom is one of those neighbours that is quick to head out the door after a snowfall to fire up the snowblower. He’s quick to lend a hand to neighbours (no surprise!) and his neighbours really appreciate him (also no surprise!).

To thank Tom, Jan wanted to support his favourite organization and asked him to do the shopping. Given this bitter cold, Tom opted for gloves. He delivered 87 pairs of gloves to us and we are grateful to both Jan and Tom. 🧤

On a side note: Diana has asked we put a call out for hot chocolate, we are running quite low. Marshmallows are of course welcome!

My Sisters’ Place:

Thanks to our Kitchen Goddesses Ruth and Diana for setting up our day with these tasty breakfast offerings and then whipping up some extra delicious pizzas. Thank you Harvest Hands for the crust and sauce that inspired today’s lunch. Pizza is never the wrong answer!

Aside from meals and snacks—we have amazing staff who are ready to listen and ready to support. Our programming is known to evoke smiles and laughter and the Sisterhood aspect of our program may just be one of the best parts. Sisterhood is described as:
“the feeling of kinship with and closeness to a group of women or all women.” We’d like to add that sisterhood is about having each other’s backs.

Our drop in program is open weekdays from 9:30 am -9:30 pm. We are generously powered by community. Your support is what keeps our lights on and doors open. Thank you for all the ways you support us. ❤️

My Sisters’ Place:

Come in out of the cold!

Turkey is not just for the holidays! Thank you to all of our generous turkey donors. These frigid temperatures have inspired the need for comfort food, so our Kitchen Goddesses pulled a couple of turkeys from the freezer and we are serving a warm, hearty turkey soup today.

We would very much appreciate donations of hand / foot warmers, blankets, mittens / gloves and scarves.

We would also really appreciate bottled water (staying hydrated is important year round), oatmeal packets, and to go snacks.

London Coffee House:

*Due to extreme cold temperatures, we will be extending our service hours this weekend until 4:30 on both Saturday and Sunday. If you are in need of support our doors will be open 9:30-4:30 this weekend.
We’re compiling a list of needs. Please check this space tomorrow for an update.

Pictured here: Krista, moments before starting soup. Thanks to TL & Dave from Mamasim for a generous donation of turkey legs.

Tomorrow, Ulises from Community Programs (another CMHA TV program) will be at Coffee House making soup along with our community partner the Crouch Neighbourhood Resource Centre.

Wednesday, January 21 is the official start of the new group, in which we will learn and enhance the skill of cooking, knowledge of ingredients and their healthy benefits, as well as enjoy the social component of eating with a group and being social! This group can be signed up through the CMHA TV website through our Community Wellness programs. This group could not be done without the help of Crouch Neighbourhood Resource Center and TD Bank for their donations, and the London Coffee House for their hospitality and use of space!
