Stopping a puck through multiple screens is one of the most difficult saves to make and is becoming a very common goal. How do try to work on this!? If you are curious about positioning talk to your but from a vision standpoint we can work on visual closure. This all starts in our 🧠 and can be trained!

.40 has been one of my favourite goalies to work with over the last few years, he’s smart, athletic, works hard and visually; he’s elite. I can say I’ve learned as much from him as he’s learned from me 👊. Oh did I mention he’s eligible this year!

One thing we want to work on for goalies from U 10 all the way to the NHL is being able to patiently track but still be aware of where everything is peripherally. If you want to take your game to the next level this off season consider sports vision training!

While vision is not the be all end all to goalie performance it’s an area we can objectively measure and compare goalies. If measured properly it can be another data point scouts can use to compare goalies and try to solve the puzzle 🧩 on which goalies will be elite. Elite visual skills usually mean an elite athlete, and combine that with really good technical skills, a good goalie coach, elite mindset and an elite skater can be a recipe for success!

When training eye hand coordination this offseason make sure we are not reinforcing bad habits! We want to train binocular vision and tracking objects all the way in! Now there are certain drills we can use each eye individually and also train peripheral awareness but proper knowledge of the visual system and how/when to train these is important!

👊 if you like these training tips follow and let me know and I will try and release a few more this summer 🌞 👁️ 🧠

How can we get faster this off season!? Using we can train the brain in using our binocular vision skills more effectively and efficiently. This can translate to faster visual process speed as well. It’s the same concept we use when we have to rehab our visual system after a concussion or stroke but now taken to the next level with high level athletes!

Fun blocker warmup to start your Thursday 👊 ! Sometime we tend to focus on our glove side when warming up and don’t always warm up our blocker side. Just a quick ball drill, making sure we are tracking all the way in and getting feedback on our blocker side!

Vision Therapy is a doctor prescribed set of vision treatment procedures that cannot be corrected by glasses or contact lenses. It is done in-office and supplemented by home therapies. Vision therapy is comparable to physical therapy for the eyes where vision disorders are corrected to improve patients' visual function and performance. Vision therapy can be described as “training the brain” as it looks to provide permanent life-long changes to achieve clear comfortable binocular vision.
