We’ve been hearing from parents and coaches across the province following the recent news from the Nova Scotia Minor Hockey community. Many are asking: "How do we talk to our kids about hazing? How do we make sport safer?"
In response, Avalon has partnered with colleagues at Saint Mary's University who lead the incredible Athlete Ambassador Program for varsity students.
This program is built by and for athletes and focuses on shifting sport culture to be safer, more supportive, and rooted in conversations about consent, sexual violence prevention, mental health, and wellbeing.
Together, we’re offering a free webinar for parents and coaches:
"Consent Matters: Creating Healthy Sports Environments" on March 10 @ 7pm AST, hosted on Zoom.
Our panel will:
• Share what we’re seeing in sports communities
• Offer guidance on talking about boundaries and consent, even in spaces where those conversations have traditionally felt challenging
• Provide practical tips and strategies from SMU Varsity athletes who are actively leading culture change on campus and beyond
Creating safer athletic spaces starts with honest conversations and collective prevention efforts. We hope you’ll join us.
