I love this imagery. As time passes our grief doesn't get smaller our capacity to cope with it increases.

MOVING FORWARD, NOT MOVING ON

“Moving forward” or “moving on”. They sound like such similar phrases, don’t they? But in the context of grief the difference between “on” or “forward” is huge.

When you’re grieving for a precious pet – or indeed a person who you love – people will often say things like, “Isn’t it time you moved on?” or “You’ll move on eventually” or even, “I’m glad to see you’ve moved on”.

But the idea of moving on from a loved one can be incredibly distressing.

Moving on implies leaving something behind. It suggests that the animal, for example, was a moment or place that you can put behind you when, in fact, he or she was a member of your family and you’ll never get over that loss – not in the way that moving on implies, anyway.

Hello and welcome to Peaceful Parting End of Life Doula Services. I want to take this opportunity to say hello, introduce myself, and thank you for stopping by my page.

I’m Marianne Butler. I live in Lumby, BC with my family which consists of my husband, our three kids, two dogs and two cats. I love to spend time in nature in all seasons. In nature I feel a sense of deep connection to my spirit which is one of the things that I love so much about it. Additionally, I really enjoy watching and contemplating the cycles of life through the lens of the cycles of the year.

I am a Douglas College trained end of life doula who serves the North Okanagan. I feel called to this work because I want to be of value and service to others by bringing heart and compassion to the dying and their families. My hope is to be able to help support people by drawing on my training and experience. My goal is to help everyone I work with to have a better end of life experience. Through my practice I support, educate and empower individuals, as well as their family and caregivers, as they plan for their end of life.
