With all that is going on in the world at the moment, itās easy to feel overwhelmed and fearful. I thought this might be a good time to share something that happened to me a couple week ago that might life your spirits and bolster your faith in humanity. So if that sounds like something youāre in the mood for, please keep readingā¦.
I was heading to Bridgewater on a freezing, dark night along Hwy 103. I had just past the sign saying 5 km to Exit 12, when my battery light started to flash. Then moments later, my entire dashboard started to flashā¦.. then everything went dark and my car was completely dead. I could see an 18 wheeler some distance behind me, but the question was, could they see me? I had no power and very little room to pull over onto the shoulder with the recent snowfall. This was not a good place to stop as I was invisible to any cars behind me as my hazards were not working either. In that moment, I started talking to my car and my Angels and repeated over and over again, ājust get me to Exit 12, just get me to Exit 12ā. I was basically coasting, straddling the shoulder and then I slipped into that No-Time space we go to when weāre in a moment of crisis. I took several deep sounding breathes that helped me to stay calm and grounded and then felt a wave of gratitude come over me that Iād just seen both my children earlier that day, hugged them and told them repeatedly how much I loved them and also hugged and kissed my husband before I left the house. I realized I was no longer in control of the events of this terrifying moment and all I could do was let go, surrender and accept whatever was meant to happen. A peacefulness washed over me that could best be described as being in a State of Grace. Miraculously, my car with no power and in complete darkness, managed to coast up an incline and travel 5 km to arrive at the Exit 12 off-ramp, up another incline, curved with no steerage came to a gentle stop at the top of the exit and safely perched my car right at the intersection of lights.
Soā¦, that was beyond amazing, but I had no time to ponder this little miracle as I needed to call CAA and was told it would be over an hour for road side assistance. During the time I waited in -20 C temperature I lost count of the number of good souls that stopped to ask if I was okay and about 30 minutes later the RCMP showed up and said they would wait with me and parked behind my car to alert oncoming traffic. They were so wonderful and helpful and after we realized it would be another hour for the tow to show up, they gave me a boost that got my car started and got me home.
My take away from this experience and the reason I was compelled to share it with all of you is a reminder that despite all the negative things we are being bombarded with in the media and the world at large there is an even more powerful force for GOOD that is happening all around us. From the unexplainable and miraculous journey of my car travelling 5 km without power, to the concerned folks willing to help a stranger and the RCMP that served and protected me, I know in my heart that the world is still a beautiful place filled with real and ethereal Angels that are always with us, even in our most dark and scary moments. We can all be that illuminating Light force for others that are struggling too. I hope that sharing this story will inspire you to look for the goodness, kindness and compassion that is within us and all around us.
