With the arrival of 2018, Ultrabeef Ultrasound Services is booking for the upcoming scanning season. If you are curious about the utilization of carcass ultrasound measurements and the benefits they may provide, I would be happy to discuss it with you. Images for backfat, ribeye area, percent intramuscular fat and rump fat are collected, interpreted by a third party (CUP Lab) and sent to respective breed association for incorporation into EPD calculations, while also being critical to building effective genomic tests. Actual and adjusted measurements, with corresponding ratios, are also returned to the breeder. Carcass traits have high heritability relative to most traits, meaning rapid and predictable genetic advancement can be made. Long term genetic improvement is also the primary intent for this tool, rather than a short-term marketing strategy. Currently, I assist clients in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Prices vary on location and number of head. Please call/text 306-903-7289 with any questions you may have. Thanks.
