On December 18th, Drive for the Cure presented their multi-year commitment cheque to the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation, totaling $100,000! Drive for the Cure has been an incredible force in supporting the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer at Ridge Meadows Hospital since 2004.

The funds this year will be directed towards acquiring Magseed, an advanced breast cancer localization system. Magseed is a tiny, implantable magnetic seed that marks the location of breast lesions. This innovation is designed to significantly improve the accuracy, efficiency, and comfort of surgical procedures for patients with breast cancer or other non-palpable breast lesions.

Drive for the Cure's ongoing mission is making a real difference in the lives of patients and their families, helping to pave the way for advanced cancer research and improved healthcare.

Join us in expressing our deepest gratitude to Drive for the Cure for their unwavering commitment to the fight against cancer.

Together, we can make a difference!

Robert Shantz, 2014 Citizen of the Year

For more than 30 years, Robert Shantz dedicated himself to organizations and projects that shaped Maple Ridge. A founding member of the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation, past president of Ridge Meadows Hospice Society, longtime MRCF board director, Rotarian, and community leader, his impact was as diverse as it was lasting.

When Robert was named Citizen of the Year in 2014, committee chair Jan Hickman noted: “It’s the variety of activities he has been involved with…the diversity.”

Beyond his community work, Robert practiced law in Maple Ridge for 40 years.

Following his passing in 2015, Robert’s wife Irena shared that he used to a carry around a poem that read:

“I would like the world to teach me to admire others without envy, fight injustice without hatred, cultivate humility without surrender of my convictions, accomplish without vain or glory and recognize that service to others will be the measure of my worth when the final balance of my life is struck.”

Robert left a lasting mark, and a legacy our community will never forget.

A baby born at Ridge Meadows Hospital is Fraser Health’s first baby of 2026. The baby boy named Beckett was born at 12:53 a.m. on Thursday Jan. 1, weighing eight pounds and three ounces, to parents Breanna and Pedro.

A lovingly handmade quilt from the Ridge Meadows Quilters' Guild (rmqg.ca) has been gifted to our newcomer this New Year, marking the third time in the past five years that they have generously contributed in this way. This quilt is not just a cozy coverlet; it's a symbol of the community's embrace for its newest member.

We'd like to extend our deepest thanks to the Ridge Meadows Quilters' Guild for their wonderful and thoughtful donation. The care that goes into every stitch is truly remarkable and greatly appreciated.

To the first little miracle of 2026 at Ridge Meadows Hospital, we send our warmest welcome to the world and best wishes for a bright and beautiful life ahead. And to all our community members, we wish you joy, health, and prosperity for the New Year.

Here's to celebrating every new beginning and the community that makes them so special!

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! ✨🎄❄️ 🕎

Wishing everyone a joyous holiday season filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. May your Christmas be merry and your New Year be bright! 🎉

We also want to share a special moment from December 10th, when Santa made a delightful visit to the hospital, spreading holiday cheer with cookies and cocoa for our amazing staff. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the season together! 🎅🍪☕ We are thankful to the Hammoud family (Tim Hortons) and Chartwell for supporting this event for staff.

Thank you for being a part of our community, and we look forward to what the New Year will bring!

When compassion meets action, real change happens. 💙

On December 16, TD executives from across the lower mainland came together to create 400 hygiene kits, each with a handwritten note of hope for our patients.

With TD’s generous matching, over $10,600 was raised for our Patient Resource Cupboard, helping provide hygiene supplies, clothing, shoes, and other necessities that restore comfort and dignity during recovery.

The power of these small gestures is captured in this note from a patient’s family:

“The swift and coordinated efforts of the physician, lab technicians, ECG and radiology staff, and nurses were truly remarkable. One small but memorable gesture was when a care aide thoughtfully provided a tray with personal hygiene items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash - an act that exemplified the hospital’s dedication to patient comfort and dignity.”
- Lisa and Darren M.

Thank you, TD, for showing what community care looks like in action.

This September, we were proud to be the chosen beneficiary of Citadel roof and building maintenance's 4th annual golf tournament! Over the past three years, Citadel has raised an impressive total of $33.5K for the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation’s oncology department. This year alone, they contributed $15,000 towards patient care and community health.

A huge thank you to Citadel for your ongoing support and to our incredible community for making this possible. Together, we’re making a real difference!

Marcus came in for what was supposed to be a routine day procedure – in and out, back home by evening. He packed light: just his wallet and keys. But complications arose during surgery, and what should have been hours has now become a week-long hospital stay.

Living far away from family, Marcus faces an uncomfortable reality: he's stuck without basic necessities. No toothbrush, no clean socks, no deodorant – none of the simple items that help maintain comfort and dignity during recovery. The thought of asking busy nurses to help coordinate deliveries feels overwhelming.

The patient resource cupboard becomes his lifeline, providing toiletries, comfortable socks, and other essentials that transform his unexpected extended stay from miserable to manageable.

https://rmhfoundation.com/the-giving-cupboard/

Our Patient Resource Cupboard provides essential items like hygiene necessities, simple clothing, shoes, spare readers, and hearing devices to restore comfort and dignity during recovery.

DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT from December 2 - December 9, with generously matching all donations (up to $5000)!
