Recap of my week
On Monday November 4th I went to Queen’s Park for a breakfast reception with Honorable Minister of Health Sylvia Jones and Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy
As a fertility specialist and advisory board for Conceivable Dreams, I joined members of the fertility community in thanking the government of Ontario for their forward thinking and commitment to Ontario families seeking fertility services

On Thursday Nov 7th, I was a panelist at the Empire Club, where we had an important discussion about the future of fertility in Canada
My message was simple: we have to work together, doctors, patient advocates, government, private sector, employers and insurance companies, to break down the barriers so that every woman, man and transgender individual can achieve their dreams of a having a child

I was in Banff this weekend for the CFAS-ASRM joint business meeting. Great meeting by the way !

I got a chance to sneak in a hike at the end of the day Saturday.
I walked 30 min uphill in the heat just to get to bottom on Tunnel mountain trail.
I had 2 hrs ahead of me to reach the summit and I was already exhausted and short of breath.
I started my ascend questioning my life choices and cursing the decision to make that hike.
But then I saw people coming down the hike with that triumphant expression on their face and I told myself, “ I want that!”
So I did the mental work I do when I need to do hard things
1. I reviewed mental list of all the hard things I have already done: Moving to Canada, becoming a doctor , infertility, running a half marathon, starting a podcast, leading a top fertility clinic
2. I decided ahead of time what the story would look like. I wrote the ending I wanted . I almost wrote this post in my mind while I was making the climb.
3. I talked to my future self. I asked her what the view is like from up there and how it feels to have done it.
And just like that, one step at time I made it to the top.

I tell you this because whether it is a simple hike or the challenge of a lifetime these strategies have helped me again and again.

Now your turn, what are your strategies to accomplish hard things ?

Dear teachers

Today was the last day of school
My son just finished grade 1 and I went to pick him up from school.
I don’t usually have the privilege of doing this but I did today because it was a special day
This is what I saw :
1. Kids crying as they say good bye to their classmates
2. Teachers wearing pride clothing ❤️❤️
3. Parents hugging teachers and thanking them
4. Parents with flowers in their hands for the teachers
5. Children hugging teachers so warmly and wanting pictures with them
6. Parents greeting and congratulating each other

Teachers, as you are enjoying a well deserved break, please remember that you do more than teach, you touch the lives of our children, you mold their young impressionable minds.
Our kids are our future and you are a huge part of our kids lives, so you are also our future
Thank you!

XOXO
A mom who has no idea how you do what you but I am so grateful you do it

This picture says it all

This is my patient and I am posting with her permission. The baby in the picture is her bundle of joy after so many years of infertility.
She asked to come to the clinic when all the doctors were in. She brought a custom gift for each of us.
She also brought cookies for the entire MFC staff.
She said during her journey she received care from each of the four doctors at different parts of her journey.

She said each played a role in getting her to where she is today.

And I want to shout this from the rooftop

Because behind each of my patient’s successes, there is the an army of teams:
a doctor team
an admin team
a nursing team
an embryology team
An Andrology team
an ultrasound team
a phlebotomy team
a management team
a genetics team.

Every single one of these teams is a crucial piece of the bigger puzzle we work tirelessly to solve: your fertility

My patient asked me to look at it on the hard days so I remember what we do when the going gets tough and that is exactly what I will do!

Dear human body of mine

You are 5’4 and 160 lbs. Your body fat % is about 35%
You will never be in any covers of fashion magazines but I love you so much AND I am so grateful for you!

This past Sunday you ran 21 km non-stop and finished feeling great and empowered. I am in awe of you.

You were 305th place out of 336 competitors in your age group and assigned s*x at birth, so yes you are pretty slow and pretty much at the bottom of the pack but don’t forget that 6 months ago you couldn’t run 5K

With each training session you changed, your adapted, you got stronger , you ended each session a little different than when you started .

So this week we rest, we sleep, we eat all the carbs and drinks lots of water. Next week we start again. Now we have our own record to beat because the journey of self improvement and growth never ends

Pain is temporary, it is what is at the other side of the pain… on the other side of the struggle ….. lies the extraordinary.
For anyone who needed to hear this today, remember that comparison is the stealer of joy. Stay true to your own path, your own journey, everyone is unique. You don’t have to better than someone else to be the best version of yourself ❤️❤️❤️

This summer I had the privilege of travelling to Mexico with my family
We tried zip lining for the first time
My 10 yo loved it and my 6 yo really needed to work up his courage to do it.
We did multiple lines together where my younger son was physically attached to me. At the last line, the kids had to go alone as the line was not designed for two people. This was a simply a “no go” for my little guy.
He went up to the line, asked some questions, examined the whole set up and then determined that he could not do it.

On the way back my son was quiet. I can tell he felt a bit defeated because he couldn’t complete the course
So I told him this
“Hey, I am proud of you because you did something scary. It is brave to do scary things. It is also brave to trust yourself and say NO if you don’t feel ready. I am proud of you for doing that today “

The thing about limits is that they are not permanent. They change as we we grow and evolve. For many years, running 5K was my limit, then I ran a 10K and now in about 4 weeks I will run ( or attempt to run) a half marathon. A full marathon is definitely a limit today, maybe a limit I will crush one day but today I respect that I am not ready.

When I see patients at the office sometimes they tell me they cannot do IVF or have the surgery or use donor gametes. I respect that at that very moment that might be true for them. That is their limit. But , if there is one thing I see again and again, is fact that my patients grow and change and get stronger as they evolve through their journey.

Limits should be respected but they are NOT permanent. They can also be crushed.

I am curious to hear about your experiences. Is there something that was once a limit for you?… But it is not anymore ?

Just came back from a much needed vacation
I did something wild this time and truly disconnected
As in, I deleted all my apps like mail, IG and FB
It was game changing
I have re installed everything back now but I will use with some boundaries
I learned how much time and presence I can gain back by not having the mindless scrolling at my fingertips and the constant notifications and dings

made a post about disconnecting that inspired me to do it . I hope this post inspires even one person to sign off all the phone apps for a set period of time and see what that feels like. Try it and let me know how it went! I feel recharged and ready to get back to work. Pic of my morning walk in Mexico.

Dear human body of mine

THANK YOU and I AM SORRY

I am sorry for all the times I was critical of you, putting you down for perceived imperfections while you were perfect all along
I am sorry in my youth I didn’t know better. I am sorry I worried more about how you look in a bikini than all the amazing things you can do.

Which brings to the thank you

Today we ran 10K together. At first you protested because the bed sure felt a lot better than the pavement. ( can’t argue there !) But eventually, you got it together. Every muscle fiber, every cell , aligned for the common purpose of moving forward, or conquering just one more mile, or achieving the impossible thing I had set my mind to achieve

You see? Now I understand you are meant for so much more than rocking a pair of jeans. You are my one and only body that my soul gets to borrow for only but a speck of time. Through you,
I get to experience a rich and beautiful life and for that I am beyond grateful

My promise to you is that every day I will work hard to undo years of messaging that you should look differently. I promise to love you just as you are, to nourish you and strengthen you and be grateful for your awesomeness. Bikini or not, I get to decide that you look amazing in anything that makes me feel comfortable. Full stop.

XOXO
Me.

I have a complicated relationship with Mother’s Day.
This day, out of all others, bring up many conflicting emotions
I am lucky enough to have my mother alive and to be the mother of two extraordinary little humans.
In addition, my heart truly sings as I receive many messages from the women celebrating Mother’s Day thanks to the care they received from our team at
I am so grateful for that

Why complicated then?

Because I remember.
I remember what Mother’s Day felt like when I was childless and desperately wanted to be a mom
I remember dreading the day
I remember feeling excluded, isolated, triggered and incredibly sad

And I know there are many of my patients still right there on that spot, probably feeling very similarly to what I felt

So today I will run a 10K race. I am not a runner. This is a huge stretch for me. But as my feet get tired and my muscles ache, I will think all the women touched by motherhood in one way or another

For the women who are:
❤️ celebrating your first Mother’s Day today after years of trying
❤️mourning the loss of your own mom
❤️wishing your child was here with you
❤️going through fertility treatment
❤️having a sick child who cannot make you breakfast in bed
💙 Made the difficult but brave decision to stop trying

I run for all of you and with all of you.

❤️💙❤️💙

Me.
