Great news! Proposed plans to allow Pharmacists to prescribe for various minor ailments below have been approved and will come into effect January 2023.
Minor ailments are conditions that can be managed with minimal treatment or with self-care strategies.
Doing so would help ease the workload on family doctors, allowing them to focus on more pressing matters, as well as lessen wait times for patients seeking care! Stay tuned for updates!
Minor ailments include:
Allergic rhinitis
Candidal stomatitis (oral thrush)
Conjunctivitis (bacterial, allergic and viral)
Dermatitis (atopic, eczema, allergic and contact)
Dysmenorrhea
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Hemorrhoids
Herpes labialis (cold sores)
Impetigo
Insect bites and urticaria (hives)
Tick bites, post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent Lyme disease
Musculoskeletal sprains and strains
Urinary tract infections (uncomplicated)
