Extendicare Kirkland Lake resident Alice has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 50 years. She volunteers with the Legion to serve veterans, promote remembrance, and remain active in her community, in honour of her father, who served overseas.

At 90 years young, Alice dressed in her uniform to attend Remembrance Day ceremonies at the local cenotaph today with her daughter, Emily.
"My Dad made a difference," says Alice.

"That's why I'm here — for Grandpa," adds Emily — who has volunteered with the Legion alongside her Mom for 47 years.

To all military veterans, those in active service, and Legion volunteers, thank you. Lest We Forget.

Ontario is investing $180M to strengthen long-term care by bringing nearly 8,000 nurses into homes. These programs will empower caregivers and ensure residents receive the dignity, care, and quality of life they deserve.

The government is delivering on its plan to protect Ontario’s long-term care system by investing $180 million to attract, retain and train close to 8,000 highly skilled nurses.

This includes a new incentive program to bring close to 4,000 new nurses into long-term care homes across the province.

At Extendicare, we are proud to care for Veterans like Roy who is a resident at Heritage Lodge in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

For nearly 40 years, Roy served with distinction across Canada and around the globe, earning the rank of Sergeant. His career was defined by dedication and bravery and took him to Germany, Egypt and throughout Canada, including Alberta and Winnipeg.

“The military gave me discipline. I got to travel, see the world, and make friends. For a troublemaker like me, it was perfect,” Roy says as he reflects on his career.

This we honour veterans, like Roy, for their service to our country.

Meet Michael, Extendicare Limestone Ridge resident, who has benefited greatly from interdisciplinary care.

When Michael moved into long-term care, he needed support with his mobility and cognitive health, and the whole team was ready to help. Now, thanks to interdisciplinary care and a collaborative approach from the care team at home, Michael is more active and steadier on his feet than before.

Each year, at Extendicare Columbia Forest, the home community honours those who served and sacrificed for our freedom. We are proud to see this meaningful tribute shared by the Ontario Long Term Care Association.

At Extendicare Columbia Forest in Waterloo, Remembrance Day is much more than a date on the calendar. It is a tradition that is rooted in respect, reflection, and community.

At the 2025 OLTCC Conference, Natasha Milijasevic, Senior Director, Quality and Risk shared insights on how regulatory long-term care oversight plays a role in resident care. Her presentation with Dr. Andrea Moser, Corporate Medical Director, City of Toronto Seniors Services and LTC Division, provided practical guidance for clinicians and physicians across Ontario to help improve outcomes for residents.
Thank you to the OLTCC for bringing together professionals from across the sector to share ideas and advance care for older adults.
