Residents and team members from Extendicare Timmins were all smiles during a visit from some very special (and very festive) therapy dogs! A little green, laughter, and lots of wagging tails made for a wonderful day. 🍀🐾

One of the most meaningful ways to support someone living with dementia is by doing things with them—not for them—and mealtimes are a great place to start. 🍽️💙

As Nutrition Month continues, Karen Simpson, Extendicare’s Manager of Behavioural Services and Dementia Care and a Nurse Practitioner, alongside Tara Pfab, Extendicare’s Director of Nutritional Care and Culinary Services and a Registered Dietitian, share three simple, practical ways to support people living with dementia during meals. These approaches help promote dignity, choice, and person-centred care—making mealtimes more enjoyable for everyone.

A special thank you to Extendicare Burloak residents Edith, Katherine, and Lillian for kindly participating in our video.

March is in Canada 💙

Moving into long-term care can feel overwhelming - but social workers help make the journey easier.

From preadmission questions to everyday life in the home, social workers support residents and families with compassion, advocacy and trusted guidance. Their work helps ensure dignity, independence and quality of life remain at the heart of care.

Last week, we were pleased to welcome Hon. Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care and MPP for Windsor-Tecumseh Andrew Dowie PC, Windsor-Tecumseh to Extendicare Riverside Place in Windsor.

Minister Kusendova and MPP Dowie met with the home's Executive Director, David, and took time to directly connect with the home's team and residents, including Residents’ Council President Dickie.

Strong relationships between care providers and the government lead to better outcomes for the people we serve. Thank you to the Minister and MPP for taking the time to hear from the people who call Extendicare home.

Extendicare is in Port Stanley. Construction continues on this new 128-bed home, which will more than double our capacity to provide long-term care in the community when doors open at the new home.

Learn more about our commitment to redevelopment at Extendicare.com/building-for-the-future/

Long-term care redevelopment is building stronger communities across Ontario — one home at a time.

In Port Stanley, Extendicare is constructing a new home with 60 redeveloped and 68 new long-term care spaces. During construction alone, the project will contribute $69 million to GDP and $48.2 million in labour income, supporting local jobs and businesses.

More than a building, this home will ensure seniors can receive quality care closer to home while strengthening the local economy.

Protecting long-term care is protecting Ontario’s progress.

Welcome back to Helping People Live Better: The Dementia Care Series.

March is Nutrition Month. Nutrition isn't just about food - it is also about is how we connect, show care, and feel at home.

In our latest episode, Karen Simpson, Extendicare's Manager of Behavioural Services and Dementia Care and Nurse Practitioner, joins Tara Pfab, Extendicare's Director of Nutritional Care and Culinary Services, to discuss how mealtimes play an important role in person-centered dementia care.

Inspired by approaches like the CHOICE+ Dining Program from the Shlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging, our Extendicare long-term care homes focus on creating dining experiences that offer flexibility, respect individual preferences, and support meaningful engagement. To learn more about the CHOICE+ approach, visit: https://ow.ly/HNkg50YlYSA

When person-centered dementia care is incorporated into mealtimes, it becomes more than just a routine - but a meaningful part of their day.
