If your hearing aids aren't working the way they used to, it doesn't always mean they're broken.

Sometimes the issue is physical (think moisture, wax buildup, or a damaged part), and a repair is needed. Other times, the device is working properly, but your hearing has changed, and the settings simply need to be adjusted.

Hearing aid repairs fix the hardware.

Reprogramming fine-tunes the sound to better match your current hearing needs.

A professional check will determine which option is right for you.

In Ontario? Schedule a hearing aid check with our Markham audiologists.

Does having a meal in a restaurant leave you exhausted? 🍽️

Restaurants are one of the most challenging environments for hearing, especially if you have hearing loss. Background sounds like clinking dishes, music, and overlapping conversations compete with speech. This makes it harder for your brain to focus on the words you want to hear.

Hearing loss often affects the ability to understand speech in noise, not just volume. That’s why you might hear voices but struggle to follow the conversation, leaving you feeling tired, frustrated, or disconnected.

If dining out feels more draining than it used to, a hearing test can help identify what’s going on and what may help.

🌍 March 3 is World Hearing Day. This year’s theme is “From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children.”

Hearing loss affects millions of children worldwide, but it often goes undiagnosed. Early identification and intervention can protect speech, learning, and future opportunities.

Let’s support routine hearing screening in schools and communities so every child has the chance to succeed. 💙

Which situation do you find hardest to hear in?

🔘 Restaurants
🔘 Group conversations
🔘 Phone calls
🔘 Watching TV

Leave your answer in the comments! (If several of these feel difficult, a hearing test can help uncover why.)

Cold weather means hats, hoods, and earmuffs, but winter gear can affect how your hearing aids perform. ❄️

Here’s how to stay warm and hear clearly:

• Choose looser-fitting hats or coat hoods to reduce feedback.
• If wearing a hat, consider sizing up so it doesn't press on your devices.
• Earmuffs can work well if they don't cover microphone openings.
• Knit or crocheted beanies tend to allow sound through better than thick fleece.
• After removing a hat or hood, check that your hearing aids are still secure.

Keeping your ears warm while protecting your hearing aids is all about balance. With the right winter gear and a little awareness, you can stay comfortable and connected all season long.

Noticing more ringing in your ears after the holidays? You're not imagining it. 🔔

Stress, fatigue, alcohol, seasonal noise exposure, and disrupted sleep can all make tinnitus more noticeable.

If ringing persists into the new year, a hearing assessment can help identify contributing factors and management options.

Why does listening feel exhausting? 😮‍💨

If you struggle to follow conversations, especially in group settings, you may experience listening fatigue.

Listening fatigue happens when your brain works overtime to fill in the gaps caused by hearing loss. Because you have to use more cognitive resources to process sound, you have fewer resources left for other things. That's why even mild hearing loss can make everyday tasks feel mentally draining.

You might notice that you:
• Feel tired after social events
• Need to concentrate intensely to follow conversations
• Feel frustrated in noisy environments
• Have headaches after long listening days
• Prefer quiet activities because noise feels overwhelming

The good news? Support is available.

📅 Book an appointment with our Markham audiologists for a hearing test. If we identify hearing loss, we can offer personalized solutions to improve your hearing and reduce listening fatigue.
