Why are we pretending cardiac arrest is the only emergency we should be preparing for?

AEDs have become standard in schools, gyms, community centres, and workplaces - and that’s a good thing. But in the midst of North America’s opioid crisis, it’s no longer enough.

Opioid overdoses are happening in the very same spaces we’ve prepared for cardiac emergencies.

So why are our AED cabinets still missing the tools needed to respond?

Our AED Retrofit Kit turns any existing AED cabinet into a dual-purpose station - one that’s ready for both cardiac arrest and opioid poisoning.
🟣 Compact, discreet, and easy to install
🟣 Fits directly into your current AED setup
🟣 Designed to reduce stigma and increase response confidence

Let’s stop choosing which lives are worth saving — and start preparing for all the emergencies that matter.

We believe staying informed is part of staying prepared.

We want to highlight the important journalism being done to shed light on the opioid crisis - stories that break stigma, deepen understanding, and remind us that this crisis touches every kind of community.

This week’s feature:
“Canada’s opioid crisis starts with ordinary prescriptions” by Eva Sheahan, published in .

This article powerfully reminds us that opioid misuse is not a stereotype and doesn’t always start on the street - it can start at the doctor’s office. And that means anyone can be at risk.

Breaking stigma starts with understanding.

“Practice makes preparedness.”

That’s the saying… right? It is for us. 💪

Carrying naloxone and having it accessible in all spaces is an incredible first step — but knowing how to use it is what turns preparedness into action.

Our naloxone trainers help individuals and teams build confidence through hands-on practice, so when every second counts, you’re ready to respond.

Because saving a life shouldn’t feel unfamiliar.

🐶 Did you know dogs can overdose on opioids too?

Whether it’s at home, on the job, or during a walk in the park - accidental exposure to opioids like fentanyl is a growing risk for pets, especially curious ones.

The good news? Naloxone works on dogs just like it does for people.

🛑 If a dog is exposed and showing signs of overdose (unresponsiveness, slowed breathing, limp body), administering naloxone can save its life.

At NaloxKit, we’re working to raise awareness and equip communities - not just with the tools to save human lives, but their furry friends too.

Head to NaloxKit.ca to purchase personal carry products and keep naloxone on hand for your pet.

* While naloxone can be life-saving, it’s important to check with your vet to ensure it’s safe for your pet, especially if they have pre-existing conditions.

Keep Calm and Carry Naloxone.

It’s up to us to break the stigma in our communities to ensure that every individual is given access to the resources they need to prevent an opioid overdose.

That’s why we proudly wear our stigma-busting stickers every day.

In B.C., more teens are dying from fentanyl poisoning than car accidents.

In fact, it’s now the #1 cause of death for youth aged 10–18.

🚨 Schools are equipped for cardiac arrests with AED Cabinets.
💔 But overdoses are what’s actually happening.

It’s time to ask: Why are we ready for what might happen... but not what is?

Students, teachers, and coaches should all be prepared.
-  That means accessible Naloxone.
-  That means ending the stigma.
-  That means being prepared — in every hallway, locker room, and field.

With NaloxKit’s AED Retrofit Kit, you can turn your existing AED Cabinet into an opioid overdose response station.

This month is National Safety Month, so ask yourself: What’s the point of safety if we ignore the real threat?

Overdose doesn’t check your area code.

While city centers often have more public health resources, rural communities face steeper challenges—longer emergency response times, fewer treatment options, and limited access to Naloxone.

This disparity isn’t just unfair, it’s deadly.

At NaloxKit, we’re working to change that with portable carry solutions and storage options designed to meet people where they are, no matter the setting.

Because everyone deserves a chance to respond, whether they live on a busy block or a back road.
