Dr. Tracy Liu attended the University of Waterloo for her undergraduate studies in Biology and professional studies in Optometry. She graduated with an Honors Bachelor of Science in 2002 and her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2006. Dr. Liu completed her clinical internship at the Advance Vision Centre of Optometry, San Jose, California and at the Bochner Eye Institute in Toronto where she developed integral skills in the treatment and management of glaucoma, corneal and retinal disease. Dr. Liu is very pleased to be a part of Markham’s exceptional health care network. She encourages open dialogue when it comes to your health care. Many vision insurance plans and FSAs operate on a calendar year basis, which means your benefits reset on January 1st, and any unused coverage does not roll over. This includes eye exams, allowances for glasses, and specialty lenses. As the deadline approaches, appointments fill up quickly, so give us a call to book an appointment today. Spending hours on your phone or computer? Your eyes may be working overtime! About two-thirds of people experience digital eye strain symptoms. Here are some tips to protect your eyes from digital fatigue!
1. 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 20-20-20 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
2. 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀. Adjust your screen brightness to match your environment. Increasing text size and contrast can also reduce eye strain.
3. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. Blue light filtering glasses or screen settings may help reduce the amount of high-energy visible (HEV) blue light reaching your eyes, particularly during evening screen use.
4. 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗳 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱. If you experience dry eyes, consult your optometrist about using lubricating eye drops to maintain moisture and comfort during screen use.
5. 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀. In addition to the 20-20-20 rule, take longer breaks every hour by stepping away from screens altogether.

Welcome to our newest team member: Dr. Kelly Lin!

Dr. Lin earned both her Honours BSc and Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo. During her externship in Florida, she gained hands-on experience managing cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. She has a strong interest in myopia control and is a proud member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists. Outside the clinic, she enjoys running, travelling, and time with loved ones!

We are so excited to have Dr. Lin on the team. She is accepting new patients!
