報稅季節又到，為幫助智障人士家庭減輕稅務負擔，聯邦政府對於這些家庭在稅務上都有不少特別優惠。為幫助這些家庭更容易取得符合資格的優惠，清楚知道如何申請和填報，ME & Lau Family Foundation 與Community Living York South 南約克支部，以及為智障人士服務的DD Community Connector ，於今年續辦報稅服務, 為符合條件的智障人士及其父母提供免費報稅服務。

ME & Lau Family Foundation創辦人之一劉庭嘉(Edward Lau)表示，這免費報稅服務今年已是第5屆舉辦，尋求這項服務市民年復年增加，上年則倍增至65個家庭，估計今年會進一步增加。他稱，今年這項為智障人士及父母的免費報稅服務，將於4月15日(周六)上午9時至下午5時，於 Community Living 南約克萬錦中心（ Community Living York South Markham office, 5694 Highway 7 East, Unit 13, Markham）舉行，填表因涉及較多申請者資料，故只限預約，名額有限，預約請聯絡Crystie Lau，電話905-294-4971內線267，或電郵至: clau@communitylivingyorksouth.ca。

他稱申請免費報稅服務者要需符合下列條件，包括:(一)65歲或以上本地居民、(二)殘障人士或學生、(三)中等收入及一般非複雜簡單的報稅（四）收入來源包括就業﹑退休金﹑福利金（例如傷殘保險金和社會援助金）﹑退休儲蓄計劃（RRSP)﹑獎學金﹑助學金或補助金等。 劉庭嘉說，協助報稅的會計師或將畢業的會計系學生，除可幫助有需要家庭報稅外﹔更能透過實習工作取得實際經驗，對日後進入市場從事會計工作或返回學校，都有很大裨益，實是一舉兩得。

劉庭嘉說，高興日前於錦繡中華商場舉辦，包括獲得萬錦市市長薛家平出任榮譽主席，萬錦市區域議員何胡景、萬錦市市議員劉肇麟、Alice Cheung 、Robin Choy擔任共同主席的「景星麟鳳匯錦繡」慈善活動，當中包括為DD Community Connector 籌得1.2萬元善款，除感謝他們之餘﹔亦讓DD Community Connector今後推行有關活動時，有較理想經費。ME & Lau Family Foundation年中除為符合資格家庭人士舉辦免費報稅服務外﹔並有獎學金頒發及發掘智障人士音樂藝術天才「弦美音樂藝術展」晚會等活動。
