This November, I wear a poppy because… ❤️
We wear poppies to remember, to honour, and to give thanks.
I wear a poppy to remember my Dzia Dzia, who fought in the Polish army and survived the horrors of Buchenwald and Dachau concentration camps. He taught me to keep looking forward and to persevere.
I wear a poppy to remember my Babcia, who as a young girl stole beer and food from the N***s after they invaded her home. She taught me the importance of family and of giving to those in need.
I wear a poppy to remember my great granddad, who flew for the British Royal Air Force as a squadron leader — despite never learning to drive a car in his 90 years! He taught me the importance of education and keeping a sharp mind.
I wear a poppy to pay tribute to my great nana, who secretly worked for the British Secret Service. Our family didn’t discover this until after my great granddad passed away. She taught me that women truly can do it all — and that a little mystery keeps life interesting.
I wear a poppy to remember the many great ‘aunts’ and ‘uncles’ I had growing up — bound not by blood, but by the shared experiences of war and starting anew in Canada. They taught me the strength of friendship and the power of community.
This November, I wear a poppy because I am thankful — for my family, my freedom, and the sacrifices made by those who came before us.
❤️ Poppies are available here at the pharmacy and at several local businesses around town. Let’s wear them proudly. ❤️
