Brandi from our mobile delivery service stopped in at Mayerthorpe Extendicare this week to visit Rose and bring her a new audiobook on CD to enjoy.
Rose shared something with Brandi, that really touched us:
“The library has been my happy place my whole life. Even when you are alone and can’t get out, books can take you on an adventure to anywhere you want to go. I’m so grateful to have the library come to me at Extendicare.”
Rose is waiting for eye surgery, and while she takes things day by day, she’s learning how to use a DAISY Reader and trying audiobooks for the very first time, opening up a new way for her to enjoy stories.
Each month, Brandi brings books, audiobooks, and other reading materials to residents at Pleasant View Lodge, Mayerthorpe Auxiliary, Mayerthorpe Extendicare, Sunnydale Manor, and Highview Haven. And when any of her patrons end up in the hospital, she stops in there too, making sure they have something comforting and familiar to keep them company.
Small visits, shared stories, and connections like this are at the heart of what we do, and we’re so grateful for readers like Rose who remind us why it matters.
