📅🐄 March Availability Update 🐄📅

March is shaping up to be a busy one — and I want to apologize in advance for my limited openings this month.

I always make it a priority to attend the bull sales where the bulls I’ve semen tested are selling. Supporting my clients and seeing their hard work come full circle matters to me.

📍 March 7th – I’ll be at the Power Bull Sale in Dawson Creek.
If you’re in the market for quality bulls, I highly encourage you to check it out — there will be some outstanding cattle on offer.

📍 March 8th – I do have availability, but it will be McLennan / High Prairie area ONLY.

After that, I’ll be heading to Red Deer for the Western Dairy Conference and will be away until March 16th.

Continuing education is important to me, but I understand it can make scheduling a bit tighter — so thank you for your patience this month.

If you’re needing to get on the books, please reach out sooner rather than later so we can make arrangements.

Appreciate all of you — and thank you for the continued support!

📣🐄 AI Clients — I Might Have Missed You! 🐄📣

AI season is ramping up, and as I’ve been organizing bookings and estimates, I realized I may have missed following up with a few people.

If you reached out about bovine AI and I didn’t circle back — that’s on me. Please send me a message, call, or DM again so I can make sure you’re on my list.

Between regular calls, scheduling, and life moving quickly, a few names may have slipped through the cracks — but I definitely don’t want anyone left out.

If you’re planning to breed this season and we haven’t finalized details, now is the perfect time to reconnect so I can:

✔️ Get you booked in
✔️ Discuss protocol
✔️ Organize semen logistics
✔️ Provide estimates

Thanks for your patience — and don’t be shy about nudging me!

Let’s get your girls bred 👏🐄

🌾✨ Let’s Take a Moment to Reflect… ✨🌾

The Northern Women in Agriculture conference has come and gone — and I’d love to hear from you.

Conferences aren’t just about the speakers.
They’re about the conversations in the hallway.
The ideas sparked over coffee.
The connections made at tables.

So let’s reflect together 👇

💭 What was one thing you learned?
💭 What was something that surprised you?
💭 Did a certain speaker or topic really resonate?
💭 Did you walk away feeling inspired, validated, or challenged in a new way?

For me, the biggest takeaway was being reminded of the strength, resilience, and innovation that exists within women in agriculture — and how powerful it is when we share our stories openly.

Sometimes growth isn’t just about learning something new — it’s about realizing you’re not alone in the journey.

Drop your takeaway in the comments 👇 I’d love to hear what stuck with you.

🐮💩 Calf Scours: When Is It Time to Call the Vet? 💩🐮

Let’s say you’ve ruled out simple “milk scours.”
This calf isn’t just loose — you’re dealing with true infectious/bacterial scours.

So now what?

Some cases can be managed early on-farm.
But here’s when it’s time to pick up the phone 👇

🚨 Call the Vet If:
🔴 The calf won’t stand
If they can’t get up or are too weak to nurse — that’s urgent.
🔴 The calf won’t suck
A weak or absent suck reflex is a big red flag.
🔴 Sunken eyes / severe skin tent
This indicates moderate to severe dehydration — oral electrolytes will not be enough anymore.
🔴 Cold mouth or cold ears
A cold calf is a crashing calf.
🔴 Bloody diarrhea
Especially concerning for Salmonella or severe intestinal damage.
🔴 High fever (or very low temperature)
Both can indicate systemic infection.
🔴 No improvement after 24 hours of treatment
If you’ve started electrolytes and anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, and the calf isn’t turning around — reassessment is needed.

💡 Remember:
It’s not the diarrhea that kills calves —
👉 It’s dehydration, acidosis, and septicemia.

By the time a calf is flat and unresponsive, we’re already behind.

Early intervention might mean:
✔️ IV fluids
✔️ Anti-inflammatories
✔️ Targeted antibiotics (when appropriate)
✔️ More intensive supportive care

🐄 Bottom Line:
If your gut tells you the calf isn’t right — call.

It’s always easier (and cheaper) to treat a calf early than to try and save one that’s crashing.

Scours season doesn’t have to mean dead calves — but timing matters.

🐮💩 Treating Scours in Calves: What Actually Works 💩🐮

When a calf starts scouring, the big question is:
How do I treat this properly?

First — remember:
👉 It’s not the diarrhea that kills calves.
👉 It’s dehydration, acidosis, and weakness.

So treatment needs to focus on supportive care first.

🥛 1. DO NOT Stop the Milk
This is one of the biggest misconceptions.
Calves need energy to fight infection and maintain body temperature.
Continue nursing or bottle feeding milk.
🟢 Just separate milk feedings and electrolytes by 2–3 hours.

💧 2. Oral Electrolytes Are Key
Electrolytes:
✔️ Replace fluids
✔️ Correct acidosis
✔️ Provide energy
Mild cases: 2 feedings per day
Moderate cases: 3–4 feedings per day
And remember — electrolytes are in addition to milk, not a replacement.

💉 3. Anti-Inflammatories
NSAIDs (when appropriate and dosed properly):
✔️ Reduce inflammation
✔️ Improve comfort
✔️ Help calves nurse better
These often make a noticeable difference.

🦠 4. Antibiotics — When Are They Needed?
Not every scouring calf needs antibiotics.
They are typically reserved for:
Fever
Blood in stool
Signs of septicemia
Very depressed calves

Using antibiotics appropriately helps prevent resistance and protects future effectiveness.

🧊 5. Warmth & Environment Matter
Deep, dry bedding
Protection from wind
Clean calving areas
Isolation from other calves when possible
Cold, wet calves decline much faster.

🚨 When It’s Not Enough
Call if:
Calf won’t stand
No suck reflex
Severe dehydration
Cold mouth
No improvement within 24 hours
These calves may need IV fluids — and the earlier we intervene, the better the outcome.

🐄 Bottom Line:
Scours can be managed successfully — but timing and proper supportive care make all the difference.

If you’re unsure whether your calf is mild, moderate, or severe — it’s always better to ask early.

🌾💛 What an Honour! 💛🌾

I am beyond grateful to have been invited to speak at the 3rd Annual Northern Women in Agriculture event. It was truly such an honour to stand in a room full of hardworking, passionate, resilient women and share a piece of my journey.

It was so wonderful meeting so many incredible women in agriculture — some familiar faces and so many new ones. The conversations, encouragement, and shared experiences were incredibly energizing.

I was honestly overwhelmed by the support from everyone who stopped by my table. Thank you for taking the time to chat, ask questions, and share your own stories — it means more than you know.

For those who scanned the QR code and filled out the JotForm — I promise I have not forgotten about you! I’ll be reaching out soon (reminder that offer was for NEW CLIENTS ONLY). It’s just been a little bit of catch-up mode between the event, being under the weather, regular work, and a certain bull sale keeping things busy. 😉

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organizing such an amazing event — and especially Alaina Archibald Peace Country Beef & Forage Association for the invitation and all the hard work behind the scenes.

Feeling very thankful to be part of this agricultural community. 💛
