Marigold-Calendula Officinalis. The common pot mariogld our grandmother's planted along with their vegetables to keep out pests. This underrated 'heirloom' plant has way to many benefits to go unnoticed. Most commonly used as an edible garnish for salads, dyes for fabrics and foods, there is less talk about the oils and it's uses for medicinal properties.
The leaves of the mariogld can be ground into a poultice to support wound care and prevent infection. The extracts are not only anti viral and anti inflammatory but calms the digestive system when taken as a tea.
This little powerhouse flower of the sun symbolizes rebirth, the cycles of life and shows us strength to bloom even through challenges.
Today I honored this timeless flower by harvesting and drying to be used in some of my upcoming blends 🌱✨️

Little nudges can lead to big decisions. Recently I attended a African plant medicine Iboga retreat. It wasn't one big a-ha moment for me, but something more gentle that changed everything. I'm usually someone who needs a brick to the head to get it, but I guess the universe also understands I need it to come off like it was my idea, so it whispered. I finally made the move to officially become my own business.Yaaay! That means getting back to my herbals as well as some exciting plans for the future. Writting up a new business plan as we speak. Amazing how things always work out

A little Saturday afternoon smudge ✨️
Finally, signs of spring are emerging. And I, too, am coming out of the darkness. New seeds are springing to life from the hopes and dreams planted during my period of winter.
Today, I give thanks for all the phases of my life. I pray for those I love and ask for a little healing as I leave the cycle of loss and change and move into potential, curiosity, and growth.

I know this woman
Although she is as ancient as time, she has a familiarity. She is the sacred lineage of the women who have led the way before me just as I shall one day. She is the place where life continues long after death - the keeper of ancestral memories. The magic of her wisdom, prayers, and cries are now settled deeply into my bones.
Just as her, my days of birthing babies are gone. The crone has accepted that when it is time to let go of one phase in womanhood, we may grieve what dies or looses vitality but it is an incredible opportunity to adapt, evolve and birth new gifts into the world.
She has witnessed and experienced great loss and great love and through these experiences, she knows with certainity that just as the women before her, the harshness and storms of winter will pass through her and the light that comes after will bring a fire.
I accept this phase in my life with honor as a torch is now passed down to me from my matriarchal ancestors. I no longer look at the fine lines on my face or grey in my hair as a slow death but rather a great gift. The lessons in my life have become embedded into my soul, and now, as I enter the crone age, I honor her the woman of age by unapologetically allowing her truths and magic to come forward.

I have been asked why I chose the name Rooted Crone as my business name. Just as the roots of a tree offer a stable foundation, my mother instilled in me the values and strengths that have taken me through the maiden, mother, and now crone phase of my life. I honor my mother, my grandmother, and her mother before in using the namesake "Rutz" as a reminder that I am forever guided and taught by the strong crones that came before.

In the darkness I look for the brightest light.
But I rest today with the certainty of the light that is to come tomorrow.
I recover, recoup, and gather my strength. I turn to the darkness inside of myself and honor it, for without it, I cannot embrace the light.

A reason, a season, or a lifetime. That's what my mom used to tell me when people and places move in and out of your life.
It looks like my time spend in Northern Alberta is a season that is ending as the year comes to a close.
Following my heart and being authentic to self has brought me here to this beautiful community only a few short months ago, but in keeping with my truth, finding my home has been difficult. Starting over here had all the best intentions for a forever but sometimes no matter how hard you want something, the universe has other plans.
It is with both sadness and acceptance that I thank all of you who have welcomed me during my stay here. I truly grew and will always be greatful for this time.

The universe asked me how bad I wanted this.
I'm so beyond happy how this Cauldron pain salve turned out and am finally able to offer it for retail.
This was always for me, a passion that turned into something bigger, I'm a healer and medicine woman. The universe was just making sure this was the medium I would use for that.

Ooh this is good! I've been working on a black drawing salve. Great for cysts, ingrown toenails, insect stings, acne and splinters. Activated charcoal and bentonite clay are just a few ingredients that I chose to use to draw out impurities and infection from the skin. It contains plant based antibiotic and anti inflammatory properties to heal tissue and remove foreign objects.

Setbacks, or learning opportunities?

Boy, have I been given an opportunity to learn the last little while. It’s always a blessing when you have an idea how things are going to go, right down to the tiniest details, but rarely does that happen. Instead, life gives us its own version, divinely guided to teach, grow and sometimes try our patience.
today I’m trying to see the lesson, grow patience as I evolve and realize..sometimes it’s not about constant action but rather trusting and waiting for it to all unfold just as it was intended to…there is no need to rush

My plan may have been to have my salves ready for sale by now, but these labels, oh boy these labels have not only tried my patience, but also allowed my ego to surface many times questioning if I have any business at all creating herbals. I decided to give myself more compassion and respect for my journey and at the same time accept the fact that I still have a lot to learn. It’s so easy to get trapped in self judgment but today I wil accept that It will come as it should,and just as in life, these setbacks aren’t there to stop us, just strengthen our resolve.

With that being said, if you are patiently waiting for a jar, I am so greatful for you and I hope you feel it is everything I believe it is when it is finally ready. And for anyone who knows the struggles of label making and has tips they’d love to share..I am all ears
