Man In Motion World Tour ♿️🌍
Inspired by Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope, Rick Hansen’s Man In Motion World Tour was an extraordinary feat of endurance and advocacy. From 1985 to 1987, Hansen travelled over 40,072 kilometres through 34 countries, wearing out 160 wheelchair tires and 94 gloves. A powerful reminder of the physical and mental strength behind the journey.
The tour raised more than $26 million for spinal cord research, rehabilitation, and wheelchair sports while challenging stereotypes about physical disabilities.
Hansen completed the tour in Vancouver on May 22, 1987, followed by a celebration attended by over 50,000 people. In 2011 - 2012, he returned for a 25th anniversary tour, travelling 12,000 kilometres and visiting 600 Canadian communities.
Decades later, the Man In Motion World Tour is still remembered as an incredible achievement that changed lives, challenged assumptions, and helped build a more inclusive world.
