History and Mikay TheraPinay Journey:
Angela Micah Ortega Bandillo, affectionately known as "Micah" or "Mikay" embarked on a remarkable journey from the Philippines to Canada, culminating in the establishment of TheraPinay Massage in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Driven by a desire to support her family and secure a better future, she initially worked overseas in Dubai, UAE. Later, she immigrated to Canada in August 2016, landing in Vancouver before settling in Manitoba. There, she juggled two jobs—as a bakery clerk at Sobeys in the mornings and a crew member at KFC in the evenings—for nine months. Seeking greater independence and opportunities, she moved to Calgary, Alberta. In Calgary, Micah worked as a Document Control Assistant at Urban Realty. After nearly a year, she pursued further education, enrolling in a Medical Office Assistant program, where she excelled as a top student and was named Student of the Month in April 2018. Despite securing roles as a Medical Office Assistant and Pharmacy Assistant, the positions were often minimum wage and part-time. To make ends meet, she also worked night shifts as a pizza maker at Panago Pizza. The demanding schedule led to a severe blood infection, initially misdiagnosed as leukemia. This health scare didn't deter her ambition; instead, it fueled her determination to achieve more. Encouraged by friends who recognized her natural talent for massage, Micah enrolled in the Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy program at MaKami College's Calgary campus in September 2018. Her exceptional work ethic earned her the Above and Beyond Community Outreach Award in 2019 during the 10-day Calgary Stampede. Graduating in April 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, she took the bold step of starting her own massage business. Initially operating under different names, she ultimately rebranded as TheraPinay Massage—a blend of "Therapy" and "Pinay," a colloquial term for Filipina. In November 2020, Micah relocated to Medicine Hat, securing a full-time position as a Registered Massage Therapist at Spoiled Rotten. By February 2022, she revived her own business, TheraPinay Massage, operating within TheraCare Physiotherapy. Her dedication and skill quickly garnered a loyal clientele, leading to a move in July 2022 to a new location at Yoga You4ia Terrace, where she started with just one room then 2 up to 3 rooms until June 2023 and July 8th 2024 relocated at 1377 22 St. SE (Broadview Square) renting her own unit/space. Her commitment to excellence resulted in many awards, achievements and milestones. Micah's story is one of resilience, passion, and an unwavering commitment to her craft. Her journey from the Philippines to becoming an award-winning entrepreneur in Canada exemplifies the spirit of determination and the impact of following one's passion.
