Effort and Ease
In every asana there exists a conversation between the effort (shtira) and the ease (sukha), meaning that there are parts of the body that need to engage and parts of the body that are asked to soften and find comfort.
This internal conversation helps us to find the pose in a safe and constructive manner, while also realizing its benefits and helping us find our bliss.
In a balance practice, the effort inherent in coming into a pose is the stabilizer that holds muscles and bones in place. But when we find that moment where our bones are stacked, our feet are grounded, and our awareness can rest both internally and externally, that's where we find the ease.
