Spring Is Coming – Is Your Body Ready?
As we move from winter into spring, many people suddenly increase their activity levels. Gardening, yard work, hiking, and outdoor projects all return at once, and after months of reduced movement, the body isn’t always prepared for that jump in physical demand.
This time of year, it’s very common to notice lower back stiffness, neck and shoulder tension, hip tightness, or even flare-ups of old injuries. Most spring discomfort isn’t caused by one major incident — it’s usually the result of doing “too much, too soon.”
If you’re getting back into gardening, remember that prolonged bending and twisting can overload the lower back. Take a few minutes to warm up beforehand, bend from the hips rather than rounding your spine, and break larger tasks into shorter sessions. Small adjustments can make a big difference.
For those returning to hiking, uneven terrain and elevation changes place extra stress on the back, hips, knees, and ankles. Start with shorter hikes, wear supportive footwear, and gradually increase your distance to allow your body to adapt.
Mild soreness can be normal when activity increases. However, sharp pain, restricted movement, or discomfort that lasts more than a few days shouldn’t be ignored. Addressing minor issues early often prevents them from becoming ongoing problems.
At Osteo Difference in Milton, treatment focuses on restoring joint mobility, reducing muscle tension, and helping your body adapt safely to increased physical activity. Evening and weekend appointments are available for busy schedules.
