McMaster OT Student: What I learned this week at Playful Strides? πβ¨
Thursday's toddler feeding group was a valuable learning experience for us! We started with sensory play using shaving cream and food dye to decorate eggshells, seeing how play-based activities support sensory exploration and building a sense of safety.
We then observed a feeding exposure approach with green beans, shredded cheese, and scrambled eggs. Children were encouraged to touch and explore; some even built letters with their cheese! Scrambled eggs with ketchup were introduced, with the focus on interacting, smelling, and poking to build familiarity gradually.
We saw firsthand how patience and small exposures support comfort with new foods. Feeding is a sensory and emotional experience! We look forward to continuing to learn about creating supportive, safe, and playful feeding experiences.
