Pet insurance is a great thing to have as backup! It can save your pets life in an emergency and help you out with some bills for new diagnosed conditions. It’s always best to get it when your pets are babies as it won’t cover anything that has already been diagnosed before you get it but it’s still beneficial for emergencies for older pets too! It’s never too late to get pet insurance. Here’s one of our coworkers stories and great experience with pet insurance that just saved her dog.
“I’m not one to post much work related, but seeing as I was on the other side of the table this time - would like to share our last week with Kipp.
Last Monday night Kipp had an episode - he was off, normally a very energetic and busy guy. His breathing seemed efforted and he seemed in some discomfort (seen in video).
Tuesday Morning I brought him into work, where we discovered he had a diaphragmatic hernia (seen in X-rays). Essentially his diaphragm had a tear in it and his abdominal contents were in his chest cavity. Unsure how this happened, but given his lifestyle and home environment assumed this was trauma from a cow kick.
My work family quickly worked to find a referral service that could see him - it’s Dec 23rd and would need to be seen in southern Ontario.
OVC in Guelph was quick to respond and wanted us to come down immediately, but given my current state and so close to Christmas couldn’t jump in the truck and go.
Thankfully Regan and Andrew bright and early on Boxing Day morning headed south with Kipp to have a consult at OVC.
They did surgery on him that day, and within 24 hours was able to be discharged. Which was honestly best case scenario, there were alot of risks/unknowns going into the surgery.
Im also lucky I have pet insurance on him and made the decision to be referred so much easier. (Especially around this time of year!)
Kipp is recovering well, but still have a long recovery process ahead of us and keeping him away from the cows is likely the hardest part 🐮
This was a whirl wind of a week, especially over the holidays!
My take away from all of this: if you are thinking about pet insurance - JUST DO IT!!”
