Minden Animal Hospital

Minden Animal Hospital Minden Animal Hospital is the place to go for friendly & caring service for you and your furry family

At the Minden Animal hospital, it is clear we’re all animal lovers with 40+ pets between us. Each staff member is dedicated to making your pets’ visit to the hospital as anxiety free as possible. This may explain why so many of our clients tell us that their dogs happily run to the door of the hospital, and pull their owners down the hall to our exam rooms for their weigh in and examination. We treat them like our own animals and want their visit with us to be stress free and fun even if they are having procedures they do not want. At the Minden Animal Hospital you will find proactive wellness exams to prevent many health crises, acting on small problems before they become big ones. Instead of treating symptoms, the cause of the problem is addressed and your animals get better in far less time. Education on preventive measures to keep pets healthy or to catch problems early on, helps your pets live longer and healthier lives. This full service clinic offers internal medicine; surgery, dentistry, radiology, in- house diagnostics, comfort priority protocols including therapeutic laser treatments, pharmacy on site, alternative medicine, house calls, specialist referrals (or they travel to our hospital) and second mile service, with a smile, every time you come in. Because sometimes illness in our pets happens at an inopportune time and financing some treatment plans can be tough, we offer payment plans and credit care for our clients. Call us today to book an appointment so we can meet you and your pet!

🎉HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🎉

New Year’s resolution:
✨ Eat better.
✨ Exercise more.
✨ FINALLY get pet insurance before my dog eats something that “defies science” again.

Because let’s be honest…
🐶 Dogs will eat socks, rocks, Christmas ornaments, and vibes.
🐱 Cats will knock things off counters like it’s their full-time job.

Pet insurance:
✅ For peace of mind
✅ For emergency vet visits
✅ For when your pet decides to start the year with ✨chaos✨

📣Good News: We offer a FREE Trupanion exam day trial for pets 3-years-old and younger- because accidents don't wait for your budget to catch up 🏃

Here’s to fewer surprises in 2026… and more treats 🐾🥂

🎆New Year, New BOOMS! 🎆

Tomorrow means fireworks… and while we may love them, our small-but-mighty-eared friends might not. 🐶🐱

Fireworks can trigger fear and a fight-or-flight response in pets, leading to shaking, panting, hiding, barking, escape attempts, or destructive behavior — and sadly, this can result in injury, stress, or even pets going missing.

✨ Help keep your pets safe & comfy:

🐾 Walk earlier before dark so potty breaks are done.
🛏 Create a safe haven with cozy bedding & familiar scents.
🔊 Use white noise or calming music to mask loud sounds.
🏠 Keep pets indoors with no escape routes.
🧠 Offer distractions like food puzzles, soft chews & comfort.
❤️ Don’t leave them home alone during fireworks.

Let’s ring in the New Year safely — for everyone in the family 🐾🎉

❄️WINTER SAFETY TIP ❄️

🚫 No ice is safe ice 🚫

Please be extremely cautious around frozen lakes, ponds, and rivers—for both you and your dog.

⚠️ Important reminders:
• Ice should be at least 6 inches thick to support safe walking.
• Always tell someone where you’re going if frozen water is on your planned route.
• Avoid ice completely if there is moving water or if there has been a recent thaw.

Pets can easily run ahead and fall through ice, putting both them and their owners in serious danger. When in doubt, stay off the ice and choose a safer path.

Cold weather safety saves lives—yours and theirs 🐾❄️

❄️ WINTER SAFETY TIP ❄️

Following up on yesterday’s post about frostbite and hypothermia, let’s talk about proper winter gear for pets 🐾

🧂 Protect those paws
Winter salt, sand, and ice cover our roads and sidewalks and can seriously damage furry paws.
• Use boots when possible
• Wipe and clean paws after every walk
⚠️ Salt and ice can cause painful burns

🧥 Gear matters
Boots, coats, and even hats help retain body heat and protect from the elements—especially in extreme cold.

✂️ Don’t over-groom
Avoid trimming dog coats too short in winter. Their coat is a natural and essential layer that helps regulate body temperature.

🐶🐱 Extra care for vulnerable pets
Cats, small breeds, and puppies are most susceptible to the cold—keep walks short and sweet.

✨ Be seen, be safe
Winter means darker mornings and evenings. Use reflective vests, light-up leashes, collars, or reflectors to keep pets visible and safe.

A little preparation goes a long way in keeping our pets warm, protected, and safe this winter 🤍❄️

❄️ WINTER SAFETY TIP ❄️

Frostbite and hypothermia are BOTH medical emergencies and require immediate veterinary care. Cold weather can be dangerous for pets—please know the signs and act fast. 🐾

🧊 FROSTBITE
Most commonly affects extremities: ears, legs, paws, and tail

Watch for:
• Pale, blue, or grey skin
• Cold to the touch
• Swelling
• Blisters or ulcers
• ⚠️ Black, dead skin = severe frostbite
🥶 HYPOTHERMIA

A dangerous drop in body temperature

Signs include:
• Shivering
• Weakness or lethargy
• Pale gums
• Confusion or disorientation
• Loss of consciousness
• Slow heart rate
• ⚠️ Can be fatal if untreated

If your pet shows any of these signs, seek veterinary care immediately. When it’s cold outside, it’s safer for pets to be inside. Stay warm, stay safe!💛🐶😸

❄ WINTER SAFETY TIP❄

As the temperatures drop, stray animals- especially cats-often seek warmth by hiding in cars. They can curl up in engine hoods, wheel wells, near tires, or under the vehicle to absorb heat and stay warm.

🚗Before you start your car:
👇Tap on the hood.
🛞Check around your tires and wheels wells.
👂Look and listen carefully.

Taking a few extra seconds before driving can save a life.
Please help keep our community animals safe this winter 🐾

Our Christmas gift today: Meet Jasper! 😸
12 weeks old. 1 kg. Persian mix. 10% thoughts, 90% drama.

Todays itinerary included:
💉 Vaccines (complete betrayal).
👂 Ear cleaning (unforgivable).
✂️ Nail trim (illegal, actually).
🐶 A VERY large and loud dog (will be telling his therapist).
💊 Went home with flea, tick & intestinal parasite prevention + dewormer( Rude, but necessary).

HOWEVER—plot twist ✨
The SECOND Jasper is flipped onto his back and held like a tiny baby?
😌 Instant peace.
👶 Calm.
🥹 Angelic.
👶Baby mode activated.

Despite the chaotic hospital, Jasper survived and remains extremely cute.

Please keep him in your thoughts while he recovers from this very big experience for such a little kitty. 🥰🫶

✨ Mason is feeling fancy ✨
We had the pleasure of seeing Mason, a dapper 4‑year‑old Labradoodle, for his monthly Librela injection and a fresh nail trim.
He strutted out of his appointment looking extra polished and ready to take on the world — pain-free, pampered, and proud of it.
We love helping our patients feel their best, inside and out. 💛🐾
