We pay tribute to the late Judi McDowell, who passed peacefully at Percy’s Place on December 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Judi will be remembered for her warmth, her genuine love for people, and the kindness she shared so generously. In 2024, she lovingly crafted and donated 10 beautiful wreaths to our hospice — a gift that brought comfort and joy to our residents and families. These wreaths will continue to adorn our rooms for years to come, a lasting reminder of her thoughtful spirit.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Judi’s family and friends. May the love she gave so freely continue to shine through the lives she touched. 🕊️💙

These thoughtful donations will be enjoyed by our families, volunteers, and staff, and help bring comfort and care into Percy’s Place during the holiday season. We truly appreciate the generosity and support shown through this initiative.

Today marks the Winter Solstice — the longest night of the year, and the quiet turning point where the light slowly begins to return.

For many, this season can feel especially heavy. Grief has a way of deepening in the winter months, and for those experiencing their first Christmas without a loved one, the darkness can feel overwhelming. Traditions feel different. Empty chairs are noticed. Memories sit closer to the surface.

The solstice reminds us of something gentle and true: even when the night is at its longest, the light has not disappeared — it is already on its way back.

Grief doesn’t follow a calendar, and there is no right way to carry it. Some days are tender, some are quiet, some are unbearably loud. If today feels heavy, know that you are not alone in that weight. And if the idea of “light” feels far away, that’s okay too. Sometimes hope arrives not as brightness, but as the ability to take the next breath, the next step, the next moment.

At Percy’s Place, we hold space for every feeling — the sorrow, the love, the remembering. This season, we especially hold close those walking through their first holidays without someone they love. Your grief matters. Your love still matters. And even in the deepest night, you are not alone.

From all of us at Percy’s Place, thank you to Angela Mercer Sturgeon and her incredible team for the care, effort, and generosity poured into hosting Once Upon a Christmas in Renous.

This beautiful Christmas dinner brought people together in the spirit of the season and raised an amazing $4,500 in support of Percy’s Place. It was a true reflection of what happens when a community comes together with heart and purpose.

Events like this remind us that Percy’s Place is not just rooted in one location — it belongs to all of our surrounding communities. The kindness shown in Renous, and by those who attended and supported this evening, is the same kindness that surrounds families at Percy’s Place every day. Your support helps ensure compassionate end-of-life care is there for anyone who needs it, from Renous and beyond.

Angela and team, thank you for choosing Percy’s Place, for creating such a warm and meaningful gathering, and for reminding us how strong and generous our rural communities truly are. We are deeply grateful.

We want to extend a very special thank you to the family of Felix Morris for their generous and thoughtful donation to Percy’s Place.

In Felix’s memory, the family donated two picnic tables, a BBQ, and a lounge chair, helping to create welcoming outdoor spaces where families can sit together, share a meal, or simply enjoy a quiet moment in the fresh air.

These kinds of comforts matter more than people often realize. They offer connection, normalcy, and a bit of peace during an incredibly difficult time. Felix’s memory will live on here in a very tangible way — in moments of togetherness, conversation, and rest.

Thank you for choosing to honour Felix with such a meaningful gift. It will be appreciated for many years to come.
